Podenco Puppy PJ – latest news
Here is the latest news from Bev on PJ’s condition.‘PJ´s ultrasound and contrasts confirmed he has a liver shunt possibly more than one. However his liver is very damaged and not sure why it is in such a bad condition. It is a possibility he may have ingested some toxin or poison living in the campo. He will have been exposed so many things that could explain this. His blood tests are giving conflicting results and he is beginning to retain fluid which is an sign of advanced liver failure.

SHUG US takes 8 more Spanish hounds to home
Here are some pix of 8 dogs who flew from Madrid airport last weekend heading for the US. Here they are being checked in. Alisha Strobel is the flight patron heading to LAX, John Whitaker the patron to Chicago O’Hare. The flight to LAX is sponsored by Galgopod, big thanks for their support. The Sighthound Underground is one of the more recent galgo adoption associations in the US and depends on their rescue partners, like Podenco Friends/Ibizan Hound Rescue and Scooby Medina, to transport all the dogs to the airport, along with all their passports and health documents. These transporters start their trips in the middle of the night. Thank you to everyone….it truly takes a village!
The dogs made it without problem during the long flight and here are a few pix after landing!

Galgo Pup PJ – still with health problems
I recently published about galgo pup PJ who was rescued together with Podenca Carley who was mothering him. Both are safe with Podenco Friends. PJ is still struggling with health problems, here’s the latest news from Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends.PJ taking some R&R in the sunshine this morning .. His blood tests came back from the bile acid tests and it confirmed he is producing an elevated level which indicates a liver shunt.
However the following day we checked his ammonia level and that was normal so we tried a second ultrasound and again couldn’t get a clear image that there is shunt in the liver. The tests are conflicting and cannot give us a straight answer but it is all too apparent to see he is not a well pup and his appetite has dropped off.

Tiny galgo puppies left to die in a concrete drain! Scooby to the rescue
Scooby to the rescue, thank goodness for them. The only positive in this story is that the puppies had not been dropped down a well…as often happens…at least in this concrete ‘tank’ they could be seen and easily caught.
From Cobie at Valladolid.
Now safe in Scooby Medina…
Why are there people so cruel? They are only two babies! Two little galgos, a little more than a month old, that someone has left in an old water tank, over two meters high and full of dirt and debris.

Galgos en Familia – working tirelessly for the galgos
Galgos en Familia was established in Malaga in 2010 by Vera Thorenaar. When my definitive guide to the plight of the galgo was first published in 2010 she kindly sent a copy to the then Queen of Spain! On this link you will find details of the wonderful galgos in their care, hoping for forever homes, ranging from a young puppy to an older galga. This photo is of Carmen, and here’s her story.

SOS Galgos educating the next generation
Several of the galgo rescue associations work on educating the younger generation of children that cruelty to animals is not acceptable. SOS Galgos recently visited a school of 4-5 years olds to talk about galgos and what lovely companion animals they make.See the photos here.

Rescued galgo puppy PJ safe with Podenco Friends in Murcia
Occasionally Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends gets a rescued galgo turn up. Here’s the story of this little one.‘PJ is a very young galgo pup found in a dreadful state. He has gained a kilo, not that you would know, but he still is terribly thin. Had got him eating and he seemed a little brighter but sometimes you get this feeling things are not just right. So I took him to the vet and said ‘I’m not sure what is the problem with PJ. So we did a bank of blood tests. What a shocker! This pup has liver failure, I have never seen such a high count. Plus he is very anaemic.
So there a few reasons why –
Poor nutrition
canine hepatitis
Leptospirosis
Liver shunt -

Greyhound racing should be banned, it is not a sport but a form of cruelty perpetrated by sick bastards who use the hounds as money-making machines and not as sentient beings. And the GBGB is a huge liar, we know that from past denials they have made!

Ann’s Canine Care – the power of sharing appeals for forever homes
PLEASE DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF SHARING
One day a very special person called your guardian angel saw how sad you were because you thought that nobody loved you.But this angel saw your beautiful heart and wanted to share it, and just knew that there was somebody out there searching for this beautiful heart.
Now a lady that was looking for your beautiful heart couldn’t find you. She searched everywhere, in the woods, over the mountains, and across the seas. She asked the moon and the stars and they didn’t know where you were, So she felt very sad too!
But then one day a little bird visited the lady that was looking for you and your beautiful heart and told her There is a guardian angel on facebook and she is sharing a beautiful heart. Perhaps that’s the heart you are looking for.
