Argentina prohibits dog racing A big applause for it!
Good news someone is actually Banning this .So to others Countries hope this sets a precedent to actually admit the truth about Dog Racing and its cruel tradition – Google translation
The Commission for Justice and Criminal Affairs Senate Argentina has signed a new law that prohibits any breed of racing dogs. People might be surprised that violating this law shall be punished by three to four months in jail. They have banned dog racing since this is a form of abuse and mistreatment of animals because the dogs undergo injections, drugs and treatments to make them faster, it also promotes illegal gambling and tax evasion.

Galgos del Sol – video of life in Spain for the hunting dogs
An excellent video showing the truth about living in Spain with the daily problem of abandoned galgos and podencos. Galgo News was contacted by Tina when she worked as a volunteer at Los Infiernos refuge where there were galgos needing help…which I publicised for her, and donated to the cost of the kennels at Gaynor’s. We also fostered a couple of her rescued galgos, including Bracken. He was adopted in the UK but sadly circumstances changed drastically (outside the control of his adoptant family) and David drove back and brought him back to France where he is still with us today. He is a great character, the Spanish vet did a wonderful job putting his damaged leg back together and it always comes up for attention ‘poor me’!

Scooby rescues 50 more hunting dogs in Castilla-la Mancha, Spain
50 Greyhounds and hounds from Castilla La Mancha…
In a few weeks the hunting season with galgos will come to an end and that means that now already shelters and perreras are completely full with galgos, discarded by their owner who just considers them a bad working tool and nothing more…
Scooby will take the next couple weeks hundreds of galgos and podencos in to save them from being killed in a perrera or waiting for years and years in shelters because nobody adopts them.Sunday the 10th. of January we had to go to pick up some 50 galgos and podencos in a shelter in Tomelloso were every day a few galgos are brought in by their loving owners or mostly, are just thrown over the fence.

Justice for Galgas Nanou and Lulu in Spain – sign the petition
You may remember a post a few days ago about 2 pet galgos murdered by galgueros as retribution to the owner for speaking out against them. There is understandably a groundswell of anger against the situation and a petition has been raised to demand justice and prosecution against the perpetrators. Please sign and share.
From the organiser. ‘Please sign the following petition, to help a friend of mine, who has been severely punished by local hunters (in Southern Spain) for having been brave enough to break a tradition of unpunished tyranny from the part of the head of the hunters’ tight community. Her punishment was to find one of her Spanish Greyhounds (galga) hung from an olive tree behind her house…and been told by the vet that the animal had been previously frozen and kept somewhere…
A horrendous CRIME that cannot fall into oblivion…just as so many galgo’s deaths do every year…This is not only death…but murder made worse by psychological torture and deliberate sadism.
