  • Galgo Salvador – Project Galgo & Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert couldn’t save him

    FBM rip 400 1 2025
    Project Galgo

Some of you may have known but many didn’t.

Salvador was named by one of our adopters and was so honoured to be that one. He was found in a hellish state having been attacked by the Galguero’s other dogs and left to rot. For everything that followed, Fundación Benjamín Mehnert words will hit you very hard. We send strength, love and eternal thanks to everyone there. He will never ever be forgotten. His name is etched in our hearts forevermore.

It is heartbreaking for us, but for them, it goes beyond..

    Scooby galgo 3 400
    From Protectora Scooby

It’s almost the end of hunting season with galgos and they are dismissed at a great scale, as always! Almost on a daily bases they are left behind by the galgueros in our Scooby shelter where at least they have a better chance to a dignified life and a better future. Here you see just a few of the ones abandoned the last couple of weeks but there were many more.

  • Galgos and the cold

    Polar Bracken 2 400
This article was taken from the Internet and written about greyhounds but all the information also relates to galgos, the Spanish Greyhound.

So why do greyhounds feel the cold more? This is often due to their lean body structure and short coat. Unlike other breeds with nice thick coats or an extra layer of fat, greyhounds have a slim build and a thin coat that doesn’t provide much insulation. This makes them more susceptible to feeling the chill when the temperature drops.

Greyhounds also have a low-fat percentage. This means they lack insulation as they don’t have that extra body fat to keep them warm. This also means they lose the heat faster and feel the cold much more intensely.

  • Sunday 2nd February 2025 – Europe is marching for the Spanish Hunting Dogs

From Platforma NAC (No a la Caza)

[INTERNATIONAL PROTESTS] Europe united against cruelty. 32 European cities will take to the streets to demand an end to dog hunting. All details by city on this weblink.

Thanks to international solidarity, thousands of abandoned hunting dogs in Spain find a second chance.

Hunting with hounds in Spain is a barbaric practice that condemns thousands of animals to a lifetime of suffering and, in many cases, to violent death. It is time to ban this atrocity and ensure the well-being of all sentient beings.

🇪🇸 Spain, wake up! We are the only country in the EU that allows this barbarism.

  • PACMA – need politicians to fight for animal rights in Spain

    PACMA logo 400
From PACMA we want to inform you that we are going to file a criminal complaint following the regrettable events that occurred on Friday 03/01/25 at the Granada Royal Herald parade, where a man kneed an ox in the face in front of dozens of children.

Many people have asked us how it is possible that there are still so many animals involved in these shows: the answer, although painful, is that the new animal protection law excludes practically all animals that are not dogs, cats or ferrets and as long as they are not for hunting or work. This excludes oxen, camels, horses, sheep, cows and other animals unfairly called “production animals”.

We need politicians committed to animals

  • Greyhounds in Need – supporting 112 carlotta galgos

    Greyhounds In Need logo 400
Greyhounds in Need was founded by Anne and Arthur Finch in 1998 to highlight the plight of racing greyhounds and find forever homes for them. Anne was also involved in the closure of the Barcelona racetrack and homing the 700 greyhounds there. Now Greyhounds In Need focuses on helping Spanish galgos. Here’s the tale of how they helped 112 carlotta galgos back in 2019.

We were recently able to visit Charlotte and Dioni at 112carlottagalgos in Malaga. They had moved premises since our last visit so we were all excited to see their new finca. It was larger than their previous finca but Charlotte and Dioni have worked hard to make it a lovely place for the galgos to live and be cared for until they are ready for adoption.
