Seville – don’t walk in the olive groves
Hell on earth for galgos. This story is from Jane Brian of Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Seville. It happened on 21st March 2014 – the first day of Spring!
‘Today is a day I will never forget. It reminded me of the reason why we started the refuge, after finding a dog hanging from a tree in 2005.

Toledo – cheap accommodation now available!
Toledo hell for galgos and podencos…This is a galga found 19th March down a well in Toledo. There are very few opportunities to save a galga when thrown into a well, but the hunters had also placed a pallet over the top. She is malnourished and is suffering from hypothermia. Fortunately this time this greyhound managed to survive and can now get to know the friendly face of man. SOS Galgos.

Galga Una – urgent foster home or adoption – please help
Apologies for the lack of news recently. It’s not because there isn’t any news – galgos are still being abandoned and dumped in the perreras in their hundreds – Scooby and Baasgalgo have taken dozens and Pepis Refuge have had more dumped at their gates. I’m nearing completion of my next book, and that’s what has taken me away from the updates. Herewith an appeal from Jacky Cotton for help for a beautiful small galga. Jacky tells Una’s story.
‘HELP WANTED
This is Una, a 4-year-old small galgo. Although outside our normal remit – our specialisation is puppies – we could not leave her lying injured and unable to move at the side of the road, having been dragged behind a moving scooter. She was in great pain.

Petition for the Podencos – Please Sign
Petitions are always for the galgos, yet the podencos suffer just as much cruelty and maltreatment – and there are far more podencos than galgos! Please sign this petition and share it. Support the podencos too.

Update on Portuguese galgos Foguete and Esperance
Jane Sibley 8 March 15:39
Just wanted to let you all know that I was having a little chat with Ines last night and when enquiring about our lovely Forgeuete and Esperanca the word Ines used was ‘thriving’. 😀 They are both putting on more weight and are becoming more relaxed. 😀
Obviously with everything going on, neither Ines or Teresa have had time to update us all, so I hope you will be happy with my little update. I am very happy with this news

Poor galgo puppy Polar
Poor Polar. On Friday he visited the vet and had his ‘crown jewels’ removed! Only one testicle had dropped so my marvellous French vet Florence had to go further to find the very tiny one which hadn’t. Sweet Polar is very quiet today, trying to get used to carrying the unwieldy collar around. 8 more days before the stitches can come out.
