Sad news today – little podenca puppy Angela, rescued from the Jerez perrera, succumbed to parvo disease earlier in the week and died this morning. • Seville galgos, another 33 arrive at Scooby Medina

Seville galgos 33 arrive 14 02 2011 250 More of the 100 galgos rescued from Seville have arrived at the Scooby Medina refuge. Here’s what Cobie says.

‘Last week arrived the first 33 galgos from another 100 from Seville, the rest will come this week. I´ll send you pictures of them and also pictures from 2 galgos of this group who have burn marks on their thighs, This is something the gypsies do, like a kind of microchip but more painfull for the poor dogs. They do it with acid from batteries or with a hot iron like with horses or cows.

  • Galga Gaby finds her forever home

LALI Tina Solera 250 Among the galgos rescued in Murcia at the end of the winter 2010 hunting season was a brindle bitch, living rough in a series of pipes. Tina Solera set out to catch her, but that was easier said than done. Over two weeks went by, the galga evading capture until one day she was spotted sharing a pizza with a little girl. Tina gave a collar and leash to the girl, who got the collar over the galga’s head, and at last she could be taken to the refuge.

  • Another petition to sign

    Another petition to sign http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/dogs-and-cats-being-gassed-in-spain/

Spain has the same problems of animal abandonment as most of the other European countries as a result of the recession – people lose their jobs, lose their homes, lose their pets. On top of the actions of the galgueros.

  • More galgos injured after abandonment – please help with operation costs

Ken_001 10 02 2011 250 At the other end of the refuge spectrum from Scooby is Galgos del Sol, newly created although the team have been saving galgos for a while. Two galgos have just arrived, Ken, victim last night of a hit and run, and Jenny, with a broken leg. Here’s what Tina Solera says about them.

This is Ken. He was hit by a car from behind. His spinal colum has crushed together and he needs a big operation…. 1000 euros. Also Jenny, with a broken leg. She needs an operation…..approx 600 euros.

Galgos del Sol desperately need funds to pay for these operations. Please help and donate by Paypal to tinasolera@hotmail.co.uk or, if you live in the UK, to the association bank account – details on this link

  • Zaragoza Killing Station – podencos need saving – please help

Podenca Zaragoza 1 08 2011 250 The hunting season is now over and hunters are getting rid of their ‘4-footed tools’!
These are the Perricos to be slaughtered in a few days at the Zaragoza perrera. This is the appeal I received

‘We are only two volunteers who have many dogs in kennels which we pay the fees and we can’t take any more dogs. We have all this responsibility on our shoulders and we desperately need adopters for the dogs in our care, and more so we need special people who can rescue these young podencos before they are sacrificed in a few days.
