  • Zafra, Badajoz, Spain – how can a man do this?

Dode galgo in Zafra, Badajoz. (1) 250 Correct me if I am wrong, but there are few good things to come out of Badajoz, Extremadura. Mariangeles is one, other valiant animal rescue volunteers, those Spanish who abhor the practices of the hunters and the bad name they give the city, the road out…..

Served his master, abandoned by his master, injured on the road, died of starvation and dehydration………….Zafra, Badajoz. And Badajoz had the audacity to apply for City of Culture status in 2016!

  • Happy Endings, Chiclana – hoping so for their podencos and galgos

Happy Endings Chiclana 250 Happy Endings is a new association formed in southern Spain in the Chiclana area. Its founder, Margarita Gloersen is Norwegian and has been rescuing starving and injured dogs in the area for some years. This is their story.

‘My name is Margarita Gloersen from www.happy-ending-final-feliz.eu in Chiclana de la Frontera, Cádiz.

I have been working with dogs since I arrived Chiclana in 2005. I am from Norway, and when I came I just could not believe my day to day experiences with animals lying in the road, killed by cars and all the others just left to themselves with no chances to survive in the long run. Sooner or later they would become run over by cars, since all the trash bins are alongside the roads.

  • Galga survives horrendous road accident – Baas Galgo helping her fight for survival

Another incredible survivor of an horrendous road accident in Spain. Read the story of Stawberry Shortcake, rescued and cared for by Baas Galgo. Sounds such a similar story as Ken, rescued with spinal injuries by Galgos del Sol and now cared for by Galgo Connection Spain.

  • Podencos with SARA in the Canary Islands – looking for forever homes

SARA Pirulo 02 2011 190 It’s extremely hard to find forever homes for abandoned dogs on the Spanish Islands, particularly the beautiful, affectionate and loyal podencos. SARA Lanzarote have these two beauties who desperately need the chance of life outside a shelter. Andrea describes them.

Pirulo is a very friendly and affectionate Podenco. He is obedient and will always watch out for the person that’s with him. He prefers to be cuddled and stroked than go to run or hunt, which is very special for these dogs. He is as well friendly with other dogs both male and female. He likes to be taken for walks, does not pull in the lead, we think he could even go without the lead.

  • Venancio, galgo rescued in Spain, adopted in Norway – can you help him?

Venancio 1 250 Venancio is a galgo rescued in Spain, rehomed in Norway. Unfortunately he arrived with a problem which is going to be extremely costly to put right. Monette tells his story.

I´m writing you with an appeal on behalf of a newly adopted galgo from Spain and his loving family. Venancio arrived Norway december 2010, where a young couple have adopted him. Unfortunately, it appears now that the damage Venancio suffered just before his departure from Spain is so bad, that the vet in Norway has given the family only two choices, either to put Venancio to sleep or to have him operated, – an operation which there is no way the family can effort!

  • Racing Dogs Protection Act – an official proposal

This website has been sent to me by a supporter, please read and take action where requested. A point to note; WSPA are supporting this, yet they abandoned the cause of the galgos back in 2002/2003 and, according to the latest response I received from them, they have no plans to take the matter up again.
