Spanish Galgos injured, abandoned, mistreated, the Galgueros perpetrate the horror

PERLA1[1] 24 03 2011 250 I don’t know how the volunteers and associations in Spain keep their stamina and emotions, I am getting more emails in this year than ever since Galgo News started in 2007 and I am sickened by the sheer volume of galgos in perreras, abandoned in the street, hung from trees, kicked and stoned, abandoned to be injured on motorways……..it is simply unbelievable that the authorities in Spain remain blinkered about how this affects the international perception of Spain.

Here are some more stories……….help if you can.

PERLA2[1] 24 03 2011 250 Perla – it took 4 months to catch her. Since her master got tired of her and abandoned her on the mountain with a kick, throwing stones to send her I watched her every day losing strength, elegance, beauty and dignity, becoming like a tattered rag full of wounds, just skin, bones and pain. Sometimes she disappeared for days, weeks. when she reappeared, her limp was increasing, degenerating into a less dangling member, dragging it clumsily when she moved…searcdhing for food but always avoiding people. And with each new injury, another new sign of hitting, kicking, tearing. Always she had her head down, tired, sad and painful. Resigned to die ……

Today I find her lying in a ditch, I thought she was dead. I wanted to mourn and was fulled with a lot of anger … but then, as we moved towards her, she felt us close and rose with great difficulty, dragging her useless leg, she tried to run. A vain attempt ……she fell several times so we were able to corner her. Slowly, gently, I spoke of a world unknown, I promised a new life if I could help. She looked at me with no hope in her eyes, tired of living …. resigned and scared, but too tired to flee. I put a collar on her neck and she gave in, it was time.’

She has had x-rays, she will need an operation. We are checking what diseases she may have. She needs a foster home, an adopting family, where she will never ever experience such cruelty again. It is very wrong. Because of her suffering, she is greatly valued and that is why she is called Pearl.

If you can help with vet fees, foster or adopting home, please contact Grace (0034) 0667 342 300

Luisa Seville 24 03 2011 210 And this is Luisa in Seville, suffering from a serious attack of mange, dehydration, starvation…… how do the volunteers cope with dealing with such cases day after day,. And the hunters abandon these dogs without a second thought as to what will happen to them………like tossing away a cigarette end.
