5 galgos were recently saved from the Talavera perrera and are now on their way to new homes in Holland. Baas Galgo has the pictures.
And 4 more were saved from Cordoba, and travelled to Holland for rehoming through Greyhounds in Nood.

If any of you have red the ‘About Me’ on the home page, you will know that I was converted to greyhounds by a stray which turned up at our home in Suffolk, UK. From then I was hooked! In those days, greyhounds were on the scrapheap. No dog rescue centre could rehome them. Anne Finch, praise her, was still working on converting the population to what fantastic pets these dogs could make.
Molly (as I called her) became a PAT dog, Pets As Therapy, a UK charity. We used to visit an Old Folks Home and the residents used to so look forward to her visit; patting her, hugging her, saving her titbits from their lunch. It encouraged them to talk about the dogs they had owned and, whilst doing that, stroking Molly was a therapy for these lovely people. And I loved listening to their stories.
Molly particularly loved birthdays – you can imagine how much cake she got to share!
Pro-Galgo runs a similar therapy in Spain. Mo Swatek tells the story.
SOS Galgos has here the story of Van Gogh’s trip to his new home in Holland, and also tales of the rescue of the Mairena killing station galgos.
Remember the pictures of Ciudad Animal Pedro Munoz refuge flooded out, and the volunteers trying to cope using buckets! They need 11,000 euros to install a pumping system and reconcrete all the pens and courtyard, so they can be hygienically cleaned.
This is a ‘Thank You’ from Loli and Irene for all the support they got from GRIN and from readers of Galgo News.
‘Dear Telma and Beryl,
I am passing you the message of gratefulness and some pictures of happy dogs that Loli has passed to thank all the help for her refuge in Pedro Munoz.
A member of the Service of Protection of the Nature (Seprona) of the Civil Guard of Don Benito rescued a galgo from the waters of the channel of Navalvillar de Pela as, due to the extremely steep incline, it could not get out.
The rescue, according to the Delegation of the Government, took place on 10th January in the morning, during the usual monitoring of the canal.
The galgo was inside the channel with part of its body submerged in the water and the agents of the SEPRONA, with just their hands and helped by a strap, were able to tie the dog and to rescue it. The poor dog had blood-stained legs, wounds produced when trying to get out of the channel.
Miracles CAN happen! Galgos and Scooby in the streets of Zamorro, the national centre for galgo racing in Spain.
Read all about it.
I have removed the post about their rescue as there seems to be a great deal of confusion about who is getting the dogs out. As I live in France, I can only report the news which is sent to me and have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the source from which I was given the information.
So long as someone gets the dogs out!!!
One piece of great news! In Granada, Andalucia, a judge has taken action against a man for maltreatment of a dog! Hurrah!! After 2 sentences in two years, and a fine of 720 euros against the owner, the dog is now in the safe-keeping of a shelter.
The court action was made by Fernando Luis Velazquez of the Associacion Amigos de los Animales, Granada – and he won! Hurrah and bless him!
PS The video of the dog follows the cartoon.

A short appeal from Nuria Blanco of Amigos de los Galgos. Loli and her husband of Pedro Munoz shelter were planning on saving some galgos from the dogpound in Ciudad Real near the shelter, but they cannot now take them because of the flooding.
Please can any other associations organise someone to save them and prepare them for adoption.
Contact Nuria direct about it.
