  • Galgos in Lithuania

I’ve been concerned that some galgos and podencos are now travelling as far as Lithuania and Poland to forever homes. I’ve googled searching for adoption associations in those countries, to reassure myself that there is back up if the dog does not settle in the home. This is a post I found on facebook about lure coursing with galgos in Lithuania.

‘Tina’s first lure coursing competition with a bang! Tina won not only 1st place among galgo, but also 2nd among all-breed 60 participants! But that’s not the most important thing, but that the dog simply enjoyed and fulfilled the need for the hunting! A fascinating view to see how the nature of the kite unfolds – to run and hunt with eyes! I had goosebumps looking at Tina
    Kurt running is something else!

Many years ago when I was on the L’Europe des Levriers team, we visited La Bienvenida Protectora in Cuidad Real, 200km south of Madrid. There was a gypsy encampment not far away and the Protectora volunteers were terrified some of the galgos could get stolen overnight, even though broken glass topped all the shelter walls.

  • Rescued about to give birth by Galgos del Sol

You will never meet a braver more noble soul than that of a Galgo. The Galgueros never feel shame at what they do. One day they will see, the Galgo español is far more worthy than they (the hunter) could ever be.

Just thinking about what these dogs go through and how many, not all, survive against all odds makes one wonder so many things. The ups and the downs, those we could save, those we couldn’t…

  • Galgos 112 – Foster or Adoption for Galga Mariela

    Mariella 5 2025 350
    From Galgos 112

This preciousness with so much sadness in her gaze, came to us to the limit of her strength, pregnant and exhausted. The next day, feeling safe, she gave birth to her 4 dead babies due to the misery and lack of care she has suffered. She’s been under treatment for the infection and is already recovering.

You have to take that sad look out of her, she must know love, life full of care and happiness.

We ask for foster or adoption for her, she is sweet, calm and when you pamper her she thanks them not moving from your side.

If you can help her, write with your address and phone number (essential) to info@galgos112.com

    Thank you very much.

  • Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – update on galgo puppy Sanvi

    From FBM

Miracles are ALWAYS FRUIT OF LOVE – Sanvi: When everything seemed lost…

When Sanvi came to us, her little body barely responded. Didn’t reflect, didn’t react… and for a few moments, we thought we were too late. But then something incredible happened: love, surrender, and hope began to take effect.

Thanks to the tireless care of our vets, the daily affection of caregivers, and above all the work of volunteers from all over the world, Sanvi began, very little by little, to wake up.

  • Galgo Roque with Galgos 112 – on the road to recovery

A couple of weeks ago I published about Galgo Roque, rescued by Galgos 112 in a terrible state.

Here’s the latest update, he’s doing ok.

Roque is getting better! Little by little and thanks to Lola his foster mom Roque is recovering, he takes a liver diet and as soon as the analyzes indicate that liver values recover, the treatment for Lehismania will begin. With the medicinal baths, the shells are falling off and he feels very relieved. Thank you Lola for taking care of him so well.

  • Coping with a dog with disabilities

We adopted a blind dog. He is amazing. He uses his nose and ears to find his way around, uses a ramp to get into the car (he’s a bit heavy to lift). During my years with a French rescue association, we brought back to France for homing several tripod galgos and podencos. They never ceased to surprise me how they coped with three legs.

So this weblink takes you to an article about coping with a dog with disabilities.

  • Galga Celina – a senior with Galgos 112 hoping for a forever home

    Celina 1 250
    From Galgos 112

There are some especially bloody cases, and it’s not just when they arrive injured or broken, but also for other reasons.

For example we have Celina, who has just joined the family of Galgos 112.

At 11 years old Celina has been abandoned and has arrived to us with several injuries such as being bitten by another dog. They don’t have much importance and they are almost healed, but Celina is very sad, she doesn’t understand where she is or what happened to her. Being in a residence surrounded by unknown dogs doesn’t help either…

    GRA origin 250
The origin of Galgos Rescue Almería

What started as an idea to open a dog boarding kennel on a piece of land in Cuevas del Almanzora, grew into a safe haven for the most vulnerable souls.
