I’ve just published this article on my other blog Podenco Post. Whilst it is mainly about podencos, you can read much of the information therein also relates to galgos.

SOS Galgos Barcelona – another abandoned and injured galga saved
SOS Galgos, Anna Clements and her vet Husband, is one of the older galgo rescue associations which I had the privilege of visiting many years ago. Here’s the story of a recent rescue.
‘Zafra just arrived at SOS GALGOS.
A month ago we asked you for help for a run over galago that couldn’t move, they had abandoned it, invisible, despite its suffering. Another extreme case that we undoubtedly took care of. Zafra needed an emergency surgery or she would become paralysed and the response was INCREDIBLE.
Now after the surgery and more than a month of extreme care to keep her prosthetic from moving we want you to see how our puppy is doing. Now zafra can find a family and forget the hell she lived through.
THANK YOU for the donations, for all you do Teamers and partners to continue to help.
Let us continue to save them!

Galgo puppies galore for sale on Milanuncios – overbreeding by galgueros!
These poor babies don’t stand much chance of a good life with a galguero in Spain- in a couple of years they could end up abandoned on the road or in the campo or dumped in a perrera! Heartbreaking.

Abandoned galgo – another victim of the hunters
From Cobie Steketee at Scooby Residencia Valladolid.A week ago she saw this poor boy outside the shelter after she had been shopping, looking at the galgos in the patio in the Scooby Residencia, obviously looking desperate for company and a place of safety. But when I approached a bit he ran away in fear. So heartbreaking and yes, hunting season has definitely begun and this poor galgo pays the price. Abandoned and looking for everything a dog in despair needs but with his fear he will be hard to catch. Never the less we keep trying.
I wish the galgueros would find another hobby…’
Update is that he has been caught and is now in the perrera, only a young galgo…

Galgo Lord with Scooby Residencia Valladolid – hoping for a forever home
From Cobie at Scooby Residencia Valladolid‘This stunning boy is Lord and a while ago he stood at the door from the Scooby residencia with a broken front leg. Obviously abandoned like that and asking if we could help him. Of course we did so he was operated in Madrid and now he is completely recuperated, he does not even limp. He is still very young, super sweet, sympathetic, loves to play with the other dogs and not scared at all.
He’s obviously had a hard life from all the scars on his poor body. All he needs now is a loving forever family. Chip: 98111.

When will they punish the right end of the lead?
Although this poem is about a ‘dangerous’ breed, it could just as easily apply to any galgo in a perrera which has a kill policy, where the galgos are dumped by the hunters! -

Protectora Scooby – educating the young Spanish
Protectora Scooby visits schools‘Last week we started the first talks about animal welfare, responsible coexistence and bite prevention at the CRA La Esgueva, within the educational project, “A Muzzle in Your Life.” The students have participated a lot, asking lots of questions and telling anecdotes about the animals they have at home.
We thank the principal and the teaching team for the great welcome and their great interest in these topics. Now they know how to take better care of pets and have learned to understand how dogs talk to us.’
