  • Galgos112 – galgo abandoned with broken legs now safe with them

    Galgos112 Simba face 400
    From Galgos112.

‘We introduce Simba, some soulless being ran over him and left him lying on the side of a Cordoba road, he could not get up and many went by without seeing him or not wanting to see him.

Until someone who did see him and contacted Anabel who without hesitation went for him and took him to the vet for the first emergency assistance. Then she contacted us asking for help.

Once stabilized he was moved to our vet in Sevilla where he entered waiting to be valued by our referral traumatologist.

Simba has fractured both of his hind legs and hip, plus a huge burn wound with the asphalt inside his thigh, what a suffering the poor dog has gone through before he received help.

He is being operated on and we’ll be able to give you more updates soon.

  • Greyhound exports from UK to Pakistan – GBGB are also murderers

    CAGED exports to Pakistan 400 21 3 2021
The greyhounds of Ireland and English also suffer a hellish life at the hands of the breeders and trainers, no matter what the claims of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain – they are also lying bastards just like the Spanish galgueros. CAGED Nationwide makes sure the truth is publicised.

‘The greyhound exports to Pakistan gets a full page exposure in the Sunday People, thank you to editor Amy Sharpe who put this fantastic article together.’

  • DeAnimals, Murcia – courses in Animal Law

Regular readers will recall that back in October 2016 I was invited to the first PAES conference to talk about the plight of the galgos and podencos and other hunting dogs in Spain. There I met Raquel, a Spanish lawyer very active in taking animal abusers to court. She had started running courses for anyone involved in animal welfare – judges, police, vets, other lawyers – on how to prepare cases to prosecute animal abusers.

This has now been further developed so that anyone can sign up for the courses. Click on this weblink to read more. Let’s hope that many law enforcers, including and especially in the Canary Islands, will sign up and take action to help protect the hunting hounds of Spain

  • Arthritis in Dogs

    Bebe grey chair 400
My little Podenca Malaguena Bebe is now 17 years old and very grey. She was rescued in 2011 injured on a Seville road and my lovely French vet operated on her to repair her injured hind quarters. She’s always been a ‘pocket rocket’ but is slowing down now. I’ve had her on Turmeric for some years to help with the arthritis developing in the operation site and she’s even happier now we have moved from an old stone farmhouse with lots of steps and tiled floors to a small bungalow…no steps and carpet!

This link takes you to a book on arthritis in dogs published by Whole Dog Journal if you are interested in learning more.

  • Toledo – 2 galgas rescued from a life of hell – please help with vet bill

    Toledo Galgo eye 400 3 2021
Please help with the vet bill for this shelter. Toledo is a hell hole for galgos, there have been court cases against some galgueros there in the past.

Two galgas Xia and Julia found in a lamentable state with an eye coming out of orbit and a head wound. They had surgery but the bill is heavy and the sick are numerous in this shelter that welcomes the rescue. So a little paw for these girls who only have one eye left.

Thank you for them. Donate through the website link.

  • Tied to a fence – 3 young galgas now safe with Protectora Scooby

More hunting waste. These three galguitas have been abandoned tied to a fence. We think that they have been like this all or most of the night, two of them did not even have the opportunity to sit or lie down. Until when so much abandonment and abuse?

    Watch the video here.

  • Protectora Scooby – 47 more unwanted galgos now in the safe hands of the shelter

    Scooby 2 2 2021 400
The hunters say that they do not abandon their dogs, that they love them very much and take good care of them until they die of old age.

Well, someone explain to us why there are so many hunting dogs in dog pounds and shelters…

Last weekend we have traveled to Andalucía to picked up 47 dogs disposed of by their owners because it is no longer profitable for them to keep them. 47 lives that will now have the opportunity to live as they always should have, surrounded by affection and receiving all the necessary care.

If you want to help us continue saving and changing lives like those of these little furry ones, you can do it in the following ways:

  • Yo Galgo – letter from EU to the Spanish national and regional governments

On March 11 2021, a letter from the European Parliament, underlining that the treatment of hunting dogs in Spain goes against European values and does not comply with Article 13 of the Lisbon Treaty, which obliges Member States of the EU to adapt its legislation to recognize animals as sentient beings, was sent to the 17 autonomous communities and the government. This letter expresses the deep concern that Europe feels about this situation.

We are very happy to have participated in the research and writing of this document, which comes with recommendations on what to do to start solving a problem that not only affects thousands of animals in Spain, but also society as a whole.
