  • Villarejo, Salvanes – hunters disposed of hounds

Villarejo Well 2 250 12 2012The hunters continue to deny that they kill their dogs when they have no more use for them. I have seen wells in from which live galgos have been rescued…here’s the story of another one rescue alive, but others which were not so lucky. Again, this is an Internet translation, no time to correct the grammar, but you will understand the story!

A live galgo was rescued from this well, along with the remains of other dead dogs, which were put into bags and carried a locator chip that allowed the agents to identify the owner of the dogs through the College of Veterinary Surgeons , who certified the animal rescued and the remains of one that appeared in the bag belonged to same owner.

  • Disposable galga, maltreated by her galguero….

Catalina 2 190 7 2012Look at this absolutely stunning galga. Here’s her story. Literal translation, I’m afraid, as it’s late and I’m out all day tomorrow with my 5 hounds, at a fun dog show.

‘Hi I’m a dog of about seven months that my owner (Hunter)no longer need, due to my right leg breakage. I am very young but already I have fractured one of my legs, he forced me to run run and run and because of the effort that I broke the tendons…
also I have shot wounds on the body, that did it to scare me and so run more rapid…
now I have it a little himchada and cojeo when I get tired much
but I still enjoying running like a Madwoman as good gauge that I am.

  • From the heart of a galgo ….appeal from a galgo

    I do not mind running
    … or hunting for you
That is how I am built
    That is what I do
But why do you hurt me
When with me you are done
    You kill or desert me
    When I no longer won
I am a galgo of soft eyes
    And softer demeanor
    I love all my humans
And am quite a good learner
Please do not throw me away
In your heart let me stay

  • Accommodation in Spain – fun holidays in Spain!

Olivenza perrera starving 2 250 blackThis is not the face of Spain that the Spanish people want to show the world, but this is the face of Spain which the galgueros show to the world. Sickening, senseless death and injury caused by irresponsible hunters who take no responsibility for the misery they cause. And now the streets, refuges and killing stations are overflowing with abandoned galgos, in their hundreds every week, across Spain. Only the other day I heard that some galgos had been hung in Murcia. Please publicise the problem far and wide; one day we have to shame Spain to take action to stop it.

  • Toledo, trash on the streets – Baas Galgo to the rescue!

Trashed galgo Baas 1 250 1 2012Last year there was Esperanza, a galga starved, beaten badly, chucked for dead in a rubbish skip in Spain. Rescued as she breathed her last, she was saved from the dead and finally, after nearly a year of treatment and rehabilitation, she even walks unaided – not very steadily, but still, she walks unaided. Two fingers to the bastard hunter who did that to her!

Now we have another, left for dead with the trash on a street in Toledo. People walked by whilst this galgo was unable to stand, walk, badly beaten, chucked out with the trash. Don’t tell me there is a God! No God makes the innocents suffer like this. Only the sick bastards (in this case Spanish, but could be anywhere in the world) who do this to innocent animals. Baas Galgo has saved him.

  • Young galga needs someone to take her from the galguera – Badajoz

Badajoz galga galguera 250 12 2011This little galga in Badajoz is only a year old, and nervous. Her galguera (female, note) says she will not hunt and so she doesn’t want it. I suppose we should be grateful so far she hasn’t abandoned it nor taken it to the perrera. Hopefully one of the Spanish associations or volunteers has taken her. It’s an example of what is going on all the time now, the pressure the volunteers and associations are under. Here’s the email contact, if anyone can help.

  • A week in the life of an animal rescuer in Spain – could you hack it?!

Ali's_rope Tina 10 05 2011 250 Regular readers will know that wherever possible I praise the fantastic volunteers in Spain who give so much of their time and emotional and physical effort in helping the abandoned and mistreated animals, often at great cost to themselves.

So many stories continue to arrive in my Inbox, not just for help for galgos and podencos but other dogs as well. As I speak, efforts are being made by volunteers to catch a family of podencos, other galgos loose on the streets of several towns…..it is never ending.

This story is one example of a week in the life of a volunteer.
