Having recently said I was going to concentrate on publicising galgos and podencos already rescued and waiting for forever homes, I decided to post these galgos and a podenco on death row in Badajoz perrera – will be killed on 21 November – all under 3 years old.

Jen, I posted this to remind everyone that this is an every day/week occurence in the Spanish perreras – these are just the galgos in one killing station; there are lots of other dogs there too and in all the cities throughout Spain. One positive is that the kennels in this perrera are all clean and the dogs have food and clean water…hopefully associations will come forward to save them – so please send any donations to associations for dogs already saved. Thanks for caring.
thats where they going to today beryl its the raffle i am doing that will help the badajoz galgos if needed
This is just heartbreaking. Look at those beautful dogs, all so lovely. Beryl, if you find out which associations are taking them, then please can you update us? There are so many of these dogs, it’s just awful.
Hello Beryl
My name´s Allyson and I live in Spain (Barcelona). I often foster galgos and have my one of my own. I have been collaborating with associations for over 8 years. I have been looking at this perrera who try to get these galgos off death row through a support group of volunteers. Can you see a possible collaboration with galgo news and myself as I am based here to help these dogs at the killing station. I am British and speak Spanish. Please feel free to contact me if you see an opportunity here.
Hi Allyson, thanks for writing. The best way is for you to contact the volunteers via the Badajoz email direct, I mainly try and link people together. If you are on facebook, you can find them on SOS Badajoz page and also on Save the Galgo. Let me know if you are able to help, my readers like to know if any of the dogs are saved. Poor things, a couple of them look terrified, including the podenca. Thanks for caring and helping. Beryl
H Beryl
I contacted them a couple of weeks ago. I am able to bring one or two at a time in foster here, and would probably be able to cover most of the cost of getting them out and transport to Barcelona. For your readers…a little piece of good news, quite often they are saved at the last moment by associations. Thanks for your time Beryl
I would be happy to help to save them, I hope the 2 black ones get out too. Need any help, please post it here.
Thank you
Hello Katharina
Thanks for your comments. I am trying to think of a way to set up a type of holding home (at my place) for galgos from the Badajoz Perrera. I have already been in contact with them and the SOS Perrera Volunteer group I think are a responsible group.
I would like to be the link for anyone who would like to adopt one of them, getting them safe to Barcelona and then onto their home. It´s a serious issue which has to be done properly and carefully, for this reason I am considering the most effective way.
I have been working with galgos for many years and would like to be more independent now from the associations.
Please let me know if you have any ideas for collaboration and where you are based. Many thanks. Allyson
Hi Allison,
I posted the galgos in a German forum. Beryl has my e-mail address. I can translate descriptions of the dogs in there are any and post the data.
Even if in Germany adoptions are going back due to the recession, you never know! Maybe someone adopts a dog or two…
It might be that in the past some Germans tried to write to the contact but without success. I can’t remember if it was this perrera or another.
Maybe you could help them if they would like to rescue a dog from there.
Tunde
hi allyson you mention you can bring one or two at a time does that mean all of them 1 or 2 at a time or just 1 or 2 of them into foster i could put a donation through on friday to go towards the process for them poor souls beryl as my email address im happy for her to give to you i havnt checked my emails yet so will see if the contact for badajoz as got bk to me again re this situation i donated for to get 2 frightned galgs out of perrera last year to marribell it was the gezzer perrera it breaks my heart they went on to homes stright after they were sorted
Hello Allyson
I’ve just been reading the threads on here. The volunteer girls at SOS Perrera Badajoz are fantastic. They work tirelessly to save the dogs from death each week, simply amazing how they manage it. I can’t speak highly enough of their dedication. It would be wonderful if you can help them with galgos in some way. We have taken 2 dogs from Badajoz via the charity and now have 5 so cannot take any more. But would be happy to help in some way if I can. We live south west of Valencia. Angie
vi prego sono cosi cordiali…..ste bestioline, dengo una simile da 9 anni e dolce lo presa da malaga e un amore …vi prego di cuore !!!!
Hello to everyone who is posting very helpful comments and a big thank you for your support. My idea is to try to develop a link directly from Badajoz Perrera (via the volunteer group)…to Barcelona and hopefully on from there to help these wonderful volunteers in Badajoz who must go through hell quite frankly. I need to contact associations across the border to test interest in my idea first. It has to be a secure system with all the normal conditions that protect the dogs. Once I have a clearer plan and feedback, I would like to put this to the girls at Badajoz to firm up the costs of transport, vaccinations, town hall fees for releasing them etc. I will continue to post any developments so your continued support will be encouraging. It´s an awful situation and with the cold weather on its way, their suffering will only get worse. Together we can. Thanks again. Ally
Hi Jenny
Yes, it´s heartbreaking. I´m here in Spain, but in Barcelona and I´m trying to develop a system of helping them, even if I can only save one at a time. Here in Barcelona, they are extremely loved and have so much more of a chance of being adopted or across the border. Please check these blogs for updates. Thanks so much for your concern….together we can do something, I´m sure.
Hi Angie
Thanks for your support. I couldn´t agree more, my heart goes out to these girls, can you imagine the stress they go through and the distress if they are not successful in placing a dog on death row. They need help. Please, let´s keep in touch and I will personally update you on my plan. I am in Sant Cugat, near Barcelona. Thanks again.
Allyson
Hello…thanks for your comments Tunde, very encouraging. It´s the type of link that I would like to develop. My idea as a individual would be to work as the middle person if you like, but I need to develop the strategy/plan as these things have to be done carefully for the well being of the galgos. I speak Spanish and have be collaborating on behalf of these poor things for years. I will keep you updated on my plan. Many thanks and please keep in touch.
Sounds like a good basis for a plan. I can certainly highly recommend an excellent transport person who brought our 2 from Badajoz. A completely dedicated lady. The girls at Badajoz recommended her to us. Look forward to hearing further from you when you have some news. Angie
Angie, that´s just the kind of info I need, great. Recommendation is always best. I am willing to drive to Valencia to collect too if they arrived there. It´s not so far.
Dear Allyson and all the galgo lovers in Spain,
galgos are adopted throughout Europe, even in Hungary sometimes. The galgo is such a wonderful breed, really. There are more and more galgo lovers outside of Spain.
It is of course GREAT news that Spanish people adopt more and more of them. The breed gets another status through this: the status of a beloved pet. That will make the cruelty of the galgueros appear much worse than it was regarded in the past. It will make it more visible, too.
My mother recently met someone in the village she lives near Budapest (capital of Hungary) and watch out… TWO WELL FED RESCUED GALGOS were walking with their adoptive parents there!!!
I was so happy to hear this great piece of news!
I had created a Hungarian website 6 years ago, a very basic layout but with all the info and several weblinks about the suffering of the galgos and the efforts of rescues that try to save them. I do hope that the website made a little difference at the end…
Here it is (very basic indeed as it is my own work)
The two lovely galgas there are our ones.
http://spanyolagar.uw.hu/
I see a future for rescued galgos in Hungary, even if only for a few in the next years (due to the lack of finances), but hopefully they will get more later!
This is such a WONDERFUL breed, so calm in the house, when people hear this, they get interested… and when they see our ones…
When I was in the office today to pay the German dog tax, the lady there saw only the photos in the dog passports (not even the dogs in person) and she immediately said “Oh, how LOVELY dogs!” and I answered “You know they are perfect pets, by the way” 🙂
Marketing efforts and networking are so important…

ok allyson i will wait for your update re the coast i will be able to put a donation through to help with something i live in the uk so stuck on anything physical look fwd to having an update i know charl of 112 carlota gals is taking one bless her she got so much on
hi Jenny
I have to go to UK 21-24 and then I´m free to move forward with this. I may take a foster that seems to have a gunshot wound on the head that really needs urgent help, if not, I will try to get one out of Badajoz. I have a full time job too, but they are suffering and I have to find the time.
Yes, I agree, Marketing is way forward. I have a visit to UK 21-24 and then I can move forward with all of this. Really useful info, thanks.
I don´t know Charl of 112 Carlota. Is she going to look for adoption through them?
charl is a rescue for galgos she is brilliant have you heard anything re the gals in badajoz have the volunteers got bk to you with any news of any other association coming to help i did say to them i can help with a donation they havnt got bk to me since the dead line up next fridaay
I think one has been reserved for foster….the cream coloured one maybe Charlotte has taken that one. I´m am watching every moment I get. I have also offered my home as foster for a female that has been been shot in the head, so I waiting for confirmation from SOS galgos for that one. I can only take one at a time unfortunately. I think all that were due for sacrificed tomorrow have been fostered or adopted.
heard from helena one of the volunteers from badajoz perrera she said they ant got them all out they need more than money they have to have foster homes and addoptions i said could you get them in to rented kennels i will donate towards it wait for her to get bk to me wish i lived in spain for the simple reason when a rescue needs fosters
they got bk to me not all of them are out they need fosters for them i have said would they be able to put them into kennels i can put a donation through towards it
oh allyson wish i was there to do fosters i will ask charl if she got one yet i know she is over flowing with poorly ones aswell ops oh poor girl who been shot in the head you are wounderful for offering to foster been in full time work and all
Hi Jenny
Investigating further with a plan, I have been advised that it would put my own galgo at risk to bring one directly here to my home. They are not even vaccinated, only leave with rabies shot. My galgo has battled leishmania, erlichia and heartworm and I can´t put him at risk under any circumstance. It´s so frustrating. Even if they go to private kennels, they can only stay there for a while as it could take ages to find fosters locally (almost impossible) and donations would dry up. I am in the same position as you as I live so far away and here, we love galgos. What we can do is support people like Charlotte at 112 so that when she has room, she can take on one which she has just done. I look at their fotos everyday, if I had a piece of land, I could do something, but I don´t.
Let me know if they get back to you…i can also put a donation through for a kennel
Jenny, can you ask Brenda for my email…it´s easier to keep in touch that way due to my work.
Thanks
Ally
Just stumbled on this whilst looking for a rescue dog, how could I help?
Typepad HTML Email
Hi Brian, I’ve forwarded your message to Allyson for her to
contact you direct. Thanks for caring.
Hello Brian
I am trying to save at least one of them from them from Badajoz. I´m not in a position to adopt as I have one already but i can coordinate the rescue of one. I´m based in Barcelona, where are living Brian?
Thanks
Allyson
Hello everybody
I have written again to Badajoz asking how many are left and the price of kennels. Once I have a reply I will post it here.
Perhaps I have some positive news.
A local volunteer group (near me) who I have taken fosters from are willing to help me with this and have a contact in Badajoz. I am now in the process of trying to arrange things.
Please watch this blog as we will need help to kennel them temporarily and have a basic health check and vaccintations. Many thanks.
Allyson
Angie. I´m having trouble getting a response from Badajoz. We need to know the cost of kennels for those remaining on death row. We have an offer to pay for them to come out of Badajoz from an angel who is following these threads. A local group now is backing me so I am able to take one in to foster as she will go through health checks before arriving and they are helping with adoption. Everything from my end is falling into place but I need their help. Do you have anyway of getting a response from them other than by email??
Hello Katherine
Can you get in touch with me if you wish to help with these galgos, 3 remain on death row. Beryl has my email, or can I ask her for yours??
Thanks
Hello everybody, things are moving forward, I can probably save one of them, but need your help.
If you think you can donate, I have a list of the costs involved and can email them to you. Beryl has my email and I´m happy for her to give it to any of you.
It´s a little urgent and sacrifice date is 21 (Thursday)
Thanks
Ally

Hallo Allyson,
I am sorry not to be able to get in touch with you, my pc was damaged and I needed a new one, since yesterday evening I am online again.
What is the situation in Badajoz at present? I can offer donation to help to get them ready and out of this place. I hope it is not to late yet.
Yes, you can ask for my e-mail Beryl, I shall get back to you in a few days, 2 of my greyhounds need my attention at the moment as they are having problems with their spine etc. I am living in Germany near Frankfurt.
I think Charl has taken 4-5 now Jen?

Will pick up the stories on 112carlotagalgos and post appeals for funds to feed them and medical care. Amazing!
Check with Allyson, I think 4 are going to 112carlotagalgos in Malaga, who will need help with feeding, vet fees for blood tests etc. and eventually homing. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Contact Allyson and you can also contact Charl direct on comdelrio@hotmail.com
Hi Katherine
No need to apologise, appreciate you getting back to me. I have applied for 3 and haven´t succeeded. Charlotte at Carlotta 112 galgos has taken some so if you would like to help, perhaps direct your donation to her to help with the new arrivals?
If you need any help with contact info for her, please let me know. I will be online again on Monday, but if you need her details before then, Beryl I´m sure can help.
Sorry to hear that your two have problems. Mine too has a problem in that his leishmaniosis has just reactivated. Always something no?!! Take care and thanks so much
Charl is taking 4, I think. She will need help to feed them, vet fees including blood tests, so all donations very very gratefully received as she survives only on donations. contact her at comdelrio@hotmail.com, website http://www.112carlotagalgos.com and shes on facebook In The Name Of Jade – Jade was a previous galga saved from Badajoz who later became very ill and died – meanwhile her cell companion Ebro who had two broken front legs and was not expected to survive – has survived against all odds although the surgery to repair his broken legs has cost thousands of euros. Eventually the galgos will need rehoming too, so your help with anything will be really appreciated. All money goes on the dogs, rest assured.
I did see that Charl had the cream and also the black galgo. I hope all the dogs can be saved but was really glad that Charl has the black galgo, as I know that the black dogs are often overlooked, having two black beauties myself. I will absolutely donate to Charl and have recently donated via the Sighthoundsforlife auction and will donate again on pay day. Also very good idea via the Blue Greyhound to buy a Christmas dinner for the dogs. I think everyone on here is wonderful, so caring, gives hope.
donated last week for cheistmas dinners kathryn to pepis and charl but direct to them my self but i did buy 2 calendarsfrom susan a couple of weeks ago one of charls and one of pepis i ant got a ebay account so i just pp the money through every little helps i did send charl a donation through on tues aswell to go towards the gals out of badajoz but she will need a lot more as time goes on and i am now going to be sponsoring per month now so along with janes money i put through there will be extra going through to charl out on table top today weather crap but will do my best to raise money for the other appeals never ends
Beryl, I have all the infos needed to donate to Charl, as I have done so in the past, later this afternoon I will add up the costs to have passport, etc. covered to send donation. Do you know how Duke from Portugal is doing? haven’t heared anything.
Typepad HTML Email
Hi Have asked Ines about Duke, as he was supposed to be going
to Charl del Rio for rehabilitation. Portugal Dog Rescue have been overwhelmed
recently with very young puppies dumped at their gates and a dog thrown over the
fence which dislocated its leg – so visits to the vet every day. Will post
when I hear back about Duke. Thanks for caring. Beryl
