  • UPROMA – working on animal welfare in Murcia, Spain

Pedro-José-Moratalla-Moratalla 250A report on 2 more of the speakers at the PAES International Conference in Murcia in October 2015.

Pedro José Moratalla Moratalla has a degree in Computer Systems Engineering. He is involved in environmental and animal welfare issues, issues on which he has received training over time and has continually joined different national and international volunteering programmes.

Pedro joined the Local Police of Castellón de la Plana in September 1997 and since then he has developed different positions at the Police Units of Traffic, Public Safety and Emergency Service. In 2012 he presented a draft project proposal to set up a specialised unit on environmental and animal welfare issues which was approved. The new unit, initially called Blue Patrol (now UPROMA – Environmental & Animal Welfare Protection Unit), under Pedro’s management, started working at the very beginning of January 2013 and he remains at its head today.

  • ACTIN – an overview of their work in 2014

ACTIN logo 130As you know, I publicise the work ACTIN do on behalf of all animal rescue associations in Spain, trying to improve the lot of the abandoned and maltreated animals. Here is a word from the founder Viv Wharton.

Happy New Year and a big thank you to the many who have helped us. We thought you might like to see what you have helped Actin Association achieve in 2014

It has been just over one year since Actin responded to the many worrying calls of eyewitness accounts regarding a local pound. We ended up rescuing so many dogs and it was such a task without having a rescue shelter, with no funds and with the animals having unexpected illnesses. Thankfully our supporters responded to our calls for assistance, because without them we would not have had a chance. In hindsight we would have been under less pressure, had we been better equipped and prepared but we acted with our hearts and when we saw the faces of those dogs, we could not leave them behind to suffer.

  • Making changes in Spanish society – ACTIN reports

    From Viv Wharton of ACTIN.

‘Many people tell us that there is no hope, that the problems in Spain are in-grained into society and that the general attitude towards animals is bad for cultural reasons, or the government just don’t care and animals fall to the bottom of the list of priorities. We hear many different reasons all the time but whatever the reason/reasons of which there are many, things are changing.’ Read the full article here

  • Life of Hell for dogs in Cartegena, Murcia – Associations please join in to protect them!

Cartegena 1 250 Galgos in south Africa simialr to what I saw in La MagdalenaThis photo is of greyhounds in South Africa. The same thing is going on in Spain with galgos. I’ve received this report and it absolutely sickens me. The Spanish – probably mainly men – in authority turn a blind eye – their hunter ‘brethren’ can get away with torture and murder – BUT let an animal rescue association try to help the dogs. And then there is Hell to Pay from the authorities! Corrupt bastards! Haven’t we had enough of cronyism?!. The majority of them are men, but a few are women. And that sickens me more – they are probably mothers – they give life to a human – they should treasure the birth of life….but life in an animal means nothing to them. They at times are worse than the men!

Cartagena is apparently one of the worst area in Murcia for cruelty against animals.

  • Toledo, trash on the streets – Baas Galgo to the rescue!

Trashed galgo Baas 1 250 1 2012Last year there was Esperanza, a galga starved, beaten badly, chucked for dead in a rubbish skip in Spain. Rescued as she breathed her last, she was saved from the dead and finally, after nearly a year of treatment and rehabilitation, she even walks unaided – not very steadily, but still, she walks unaided. Two fingers to the bastard hunter who did that to her!

Now we have another, left for dead with the trash on a street in Toledo. People walked by whilst this galgo was unable to stand, walk, badly beaten, chucked out with the trash. Don’t tell me there is a God! No God makes the innocents suffer like this. Only the sick bastards (in this case Spanish, but could be anywhere in the world) who do this to innocent animals. Baas Galgo has saved him.
