  • Galga Kira – victim of a hit and run – please help with the vet bill

Lynn galga 5 250This is a story which could happen to any of us. Lynn Pauloudros does a lot of work helping galgos and podencos from her home in France. She now finds herself – through no fault of her own nor that of her galga – with a huge vet bill. She is running an auction on facebook to raise funds to pay for the treatment for her galga, but I am appealing here for help for her too. Please, if you can help, donate to her here.

Lynn explains. ‘I rescued Kira from Olivenza perrera, she is about 7-8 years old. She had to be operated on when I got her in 2014 because she had been shot with a shotgun and the wound never healed. There was a pocked of pus under her muscles and half her tail had to be amputated. She also only has 3 toes on a front foot.

  • Fepaex, Badajoz, Extemadura – fighting the victims of the galgueros!

Otro Fepaex 200 10 2012Further to my piece about running galgos by motorised vehicles, here’s another sad example of a galgo dragged by a car driven by a galguero, along with other galgos. Horrendous mental and physical injuries. Luckily this one, Otro, is safe with Fepaex in Badajoz, Extremadura. But it needn’t have happened! It’s against the law!

Olivenza – the biggest private killing station in Badajoz. ‘Thursday is a good day for killing’ says the owner!

  • Three more galgos – urgent appeal to save one from the hunter

Cordoba galga 250 1 9 2012The hands and feet in this photo are of a Spanish hunter in Cordoba. The galga, Nadine – see the fear as he crushes her to him, has been a breeding machine for the last 6 years, recently taken away from her last batch of puppies. Now he no longer wants her and is taking her to the perrera. The volunteer has managed to persuade him to keep her a few days whilst she finds somewhere for the galga to go. Please has anyone room, as the volunteer has too many dogs already at home. She is chipped. URGENT. anateremm@gmail.com

The second appeal. September now, hunting has started, and still there are injured and starving galgos on the streets of Spanish towns and cities! This galgo has been on the streets for weeks, but was so terrified that he could not be caught – disappearing at times that the volunteers thought he had gone somewhere to die. But he has reappeared – they’ve called him Wasa, and now he has a shattered hind leg, scavenging around the dustbins on the streets – desperate.

The second appeal – these three beauties are in Badajoz, Extremadura. Residents have complained about them being around (so why don’t they take them in?!)

They are about 2 months old, sociable, playful, loving. We need fosters for them urgently, to get them off the streets. Please contact. ro-cado@hotmail.com firstly o r xana.50@hotmail.es

  • Galgos on death row in perreras Hellin, Badajoz and Mairena

Anke Simonchel 250 7 2012Why am I here, on death row? What did I do wrong? I bear the scars from serving you well, Senor Galguero, even though you starved and beat me. What did I do wrong?

You did nothing wrong, you were simply born a galgo in Spain – from the moment of your conception, you were doomed to a life of hell unless someone with a heart could rescue you!

  • A happy ending for two young galgos – Badajoz to Madrid!

The Badajoz gALGOS 200 15 3 2012Do you remember the two young brindle galgos cowering terrified in Badajoz perrera. They have been adopted by a couple in Madrid and here they are on their way to their forever home. How I wish that to be the happy ending for every dog which finds itself in the killing stations, whatever its breed or mix.

  • Badajoz galgo – galguera threatens to kill him! Another disposable dog!

Badajoz galgo 1 250 17 1 2012A volunteer in Badajoz pleads for help for another galgo. ‘ARWIN is a young galgo 16 months old… the galguera (female hunter) contacted us and said he will kill him in 48 hours if we can’t find anywhere for him.

When we came to see the dog, we found he was terrified, he had a lot of bite marks on him, some healed, some more recent. I have asked the galguera please let us bathe him, heal the wounds and carry him to the vet… but she says the dog is not hers, and the dog has to go.

  • Galgos in danger, Cordoba perrera and Badajoz … the holocaust continues

Cordoba perrera 1 250 17 1 2012If a galgo won’t hunt, then the galguero gets rid of it. Some just dump them anywyhere, others will pass the dog onto another hunter…it doesn’t want to hunt, so it gets passed on to another hunter…..this is what has happened to one young galgo. This isn’t a photo of her, we don’t have one yet, just the appeal, can anyone squeeze her in somewhere to stop her ending up abandoned or in Badajoz perrera. garrapateracoherente@hotmail.com

And 7 galgos in Cordoba perrera, on death row – male and female, from 1-3 years old.
