Safe now – galgo puppy hung and thrown into the river at Castille y Leon, Spain
LINO, baby who was tried to kill with a rope and thrown into the river. She is now safe with Galgos De LeónWe talk about systemic cruelty and impunity. The exclusion of hunting dogs from the Animal Protection Act in Spain has, in fact, armored the abusers, leaving the Galgueros with an unfair legal shield. Knowing themselves protected by the law, many continue to treat these noble animals as mere disposable tools, condemning them to a destiny of torture, abandonment or death, while protectors fight alone to save lives like this little warrior who is now fighting to recover at the veterinary hospital. -
Valencia & Badajoz perreras – more ‘disposable dogs’ from the Spanish hunters
Two more galgos in perreras. ALI is in Valencia perrera, she has had puppies at some time, no chip, no one claimed her. She’s about 3 years old, a bit timid but ok with other dogs, walks on a lead. Contact adopcioneslaperrera@gmail.com
Baco is in Badajoz perrera, extremely thin, a scarred body publicising the rough treatment he has suffered at the hands of a cruel human. Like all galgo, he will have love to give, in the right caring hands. Contact sosperrerabadajoz@gmail.com tele Patricia/Laura 622928360

Hunting with the Spanish Galgo – no other European country hunts with greyhounds
Another video showing hunting with galgueros; note some of the horses have chopped tails – many of the Spanish take off manes and tails – read about the annual horse wrestling fiesta in Galicia – they don’t think the poor animals need to keep the flies off!
And further remember, most of these men will dump their dogs at the end of January, if not before.

Zaragoza Killing Station – podencos need saving – please help
The hunting season is now over and hunters are getting rid of their ‘4-footed tools’!
These are the Perricos to be slaughtered in a few days at the Zaragoza perrera. This is the appeal I received‘We are only two volunteers who have many dogs in kennels which we pay the fees and we can’t take any more dogs. We have all this responsibility on our shoulders and we desperately need adopters for the dogs in our care, and more so we need special people who can rescue these young podencos before they are sacrificed in a few days.

Scooby needs collars to sell – can you help?
With the hundreds of animals to care for, especially the lastest 130 galgos from Cadiz, Scooby is desperately needs to raise funds. Here’s a plea from Diane at Scooby.
Dear Friends,
The Scooby Shop at the shelter is in desperate need of fancy martingale collars. The shelter sells these collars to make money for the animals in the shelter. They are a huge hit at events and Scooby Open House Days as well as on adoption days. As you can imagine, they look beautiful on the Galgos!

Podencos need help too – can you help?
This is another sad casualty of hunting in Spain; this blind podenco was dumped in the Jerez perrera in December. It’s bad enough for all the dogs who can see, imagine not being able to see in that environment too. Luckily Silvia of Galgo Connection Spain in Valencia has taken him to give him a chance of a comfortable future life.
Update 05 01 2011 – Alphonso sadly crossed over the rainbow bridge today. At least in his last few days he knew the sound of kind voices and felt the gentle caress of caring hands.
And there is news in today about an injured podenco which has been taken to the vet by Galgos del Sol.
