It’s cold, wet, dirty – they are starving – why feed a dog when it’s going to be killed! Cry for these poor souls. If any one can help save them from a miserable death.

‘Galgos are key to the success of a hunt, but many of them are killed or abandoned by their owners when hunting season ends. Rescue Associations claim that animals have become a disposable tool. Many were hung from a tree after a hunt, others are thrown into a well or wounded by a shot as punishment if the hunt has not been successful, and only the best are left in the field.

A few days ago a woman called me crying, 4 dogs skeletal and more dead than alive. I went to see and do photos, and what I found on arrival was eerie. They are two males and two females. Sandra and Leticia do marvellous work at this shelter, I can’t praise them enough for what they do. But the thing I can’t get my head round is that it is owned by a hunter who also breeds galgos and sells them to the galgueros; a rich man! I visited it in June 2009.
