  • Denuncias, Sandra Baas tells you what do do – vitally important.

I have just received this important piece of information from Sandra Baas, for those of you wonderful volunteers who may not know this.

You can register a denuncia against every case of animal cruelty, even is you do not know who did it. This is because the hunters say that it is not true (mistreatment of galos) because there are no ‘denuncias’ in the Guardia Civil – and remember, members of the Guardia Civil and Seprona are also hunters. Baas Galgo register in the Guardia Civil every case of maltreatment of animals as a denuncia. Sandra says, ‘for the hunters I am a big nightmare and every time I have an article in the newspaper or magazines, they attack this way saying that the official numbers of Seprona are totally different from ours. Af course nobody knew before you can denounce without knowing the owner……lack of information.’So please, everyone involved in rescuing injured and maltreated animals, do what Sandra does and register a denuncia.

  • Spanish galgo Nicolas, wounded and dying on the street – Baas Galgo to the rescue

Nicolas 1 Baas Galgo 01 2011 250 How did you spend Xmas and the New Year? Thousands of galgos spent theirs either dumped in a killing station waiting to die, or abandoned, searching for food and shelter. The Spanish volunteers didn’t have time off. This is the story of Nicolas, rescued from pain and death by Rachel and Silvia on Christmas Eve, supported by Baas Galgo. To see the video of him at the vet surgery, scroll down to the bottom of the story and click on the YouTube link. Please donate to his veterinary care. Marisol 2 Sandra Bas 12 2010 250 This is Marisol, the latest victim of cruelty and abandon taken in by the BaasGalgo Association. Weep with me for the suffering of this little creature and for the courage of Leticia who has her in her care.

‘Marisol is only four months old and already she is suffering from severe rickets, scabies, mange, malnutrition, bone problems, and to top it all she has a bad fever and her condition is critical. • Spanish Galgos Ulises, Maisey, Luna from El Paraiso – please donate to vet fees

Naisey after operation 24 11 2010 250 More abandoned and rescued galgos……from the perrera, from the countryside, urbanizations……….they are being abandoned everywhere, and it is only November – still the middle of the Spanish hunting season! One of the galgas rescued from El Paraiso could be pregnant, so an urgent spaying operation has now been carried out. And Maisey, an abandoned injured galga – sadly her leg could not be saved, so she is yet another one with an amputation. And the vet fees need paying!

Ulises was a galgo who had been living rough for months, no one could get near him. Eventually he was so ill he could be caught. He has leishmania, ehrlichia, rickets, a skin condition, but he is a fighter, as are the other two…..he wants to live and experience a forever home.

  • Spanish Galga Lola – an expressive poem to share with you

Rehoming Lola and Owen Jeminah Kunfeld 11 2010 200 I’d like to share this poem with you. Written by Lola, with a little help from her lifetime friend Owen Davis who adopted her, his wife works with Greyhounds in Nood Belgium. (Photo by Jemimah Kunfeld)

    LOLA’S POEM

Spain is the land of the heartless.
I don’t care about the mosque at Cordoba.
I don’t care any more about Pablo Casals.
Or what his cunning fingers did with the bow.
The white Alhambra, abounding in cool shade,
    Singing fountains and sunlight,
Is a story of long ago.
    Forget it.
