Save the Galgo – Stop the suffering

Spanish hunters – the galgo massacre begins! Scooby appeals

Scooby Medina compound 250 This is the hunters’ answer to the publicity about them hanging their dogs. These men are sick, there is no reasoning with them, they are a blight on Spain and the majority of Spanish people. This message just received from Scooby.

Dear Friends,

Today is February 1st. The end of the hunting season is upon us and for this reason our phones and emails have not stopped with people asking us for help to take dogs. Today we got two phone calls from Seville. The shelters there are full, and many of them have waiting lists to take dogs. But what is even worse that we heard today, is the galgueros are threatening to remove the microchip from the dogs and let them roam free in the streets, left to die.

The thought of this is haunting. As you can imagine, the procedure to remove a microchip without any anesthetic, by a careless galguero would be extremely painful and would result in extreme infection when left unattended. It seems that they are become more and more ruthless with their ways to torture these beautiful animals. We need to ensure that this does not happen.

Our immediate action is to rescue these animals but we can’t simply commit to more dogs in our shelter without your support. It costs Scooby approximately 6000 Euros to feed 400 dogs for one month.

We need your help to rescue these dogs.
We need money to buy food and medicine. Of course donated food and medicine is also perfect.
We need adoptions so these animals can finally be in a home.

There are 100 galgos minimum waiting for rescue. We are asking you to please come forward and let us know if you are able to help in any way, so these magnificent creatures don’t suffer any long at the hands of the galgueros. The time is now to rescue them.

If you can help, please send us an email to info@scoobymedina.com. We need a commitment from you before we can commit to saving these animals. We can’t simply take them and then not have the means to care for them.

Please share with all, in hopes of getting the word out.

On behalf of these creatures, thank you in advance.

Is there ANYONE out there who has connections with media people, people who can start an all out campaign about exposing this situation? TV ads? Billboards?? PETA ?
I know a lot of us have written letters, sent emails, to the Spanish gov’t with lame ass responses if any, like there are laws in place to protect domestic animals. Well, GAGLOS are viewed as hunting dogs, not ‘pets’ and so they don’t fall under such ‘protection’. Incessant PRESSURE on the Gov’t is the only way to ban Hunting in Spain! Can we all brainstorm with any ideas?
Does anyone know if there are ANY steps being taken by the Gov’t to change things over there? Any good news at all??

    Bonjour
Frustrating, isnt it! The problem is that
the Spanish assos and refuges are mostly volunteers who work for a living, so
limited time available which is spent on rescues and looking after dogs.
And trying to deal with a corrupt society (that applies to most countries I
know, even some of the UK politicians) which is made up of hunters – and largely
men at that – who refuse to see outside their own blinkered arrogant lifestyle
and see what harm they do to the International image of Spain is one of the most
    frustrating aspects.
Ive written to you privately with what I have in
mind to try this year, and will be grateful for anyones input on campaigns to
run, mass demonstrations in major cities, a Maria mob to just go in and knee cap
all the bastards!! All suggestions considered!
    Thanks for caring
