  • Cordoba – galga mama & puppies in desperate need – Arca de Noe appeal

Cordoba galga mama 250 1 26 07 As you know, I am not able to type much, as my right arm is immobile after a shoulder operation. I simply cannot keep up with the appeals which come in. But this is one from El Arca de Noe in Cordoba, which I have used a translator to be able to read in English. So please excuse that I haven’t been through it to correct the English, as I can only type with one finger!

UPDATE 28/7/2011 Baas Galgo now have 3 babies in Madrid, but the mama still hasn’t been caught

‘It is possible that we soon will leave on a bus or a plane and we leave to another country or city to continue not holding these things, because it is unbearable living with this.

Milagros is another poor victim of human selfishness, rescued from the worst of hells; Was a victim of the famous beggar that keeps puppies constantly locked in a dirty little carrier. We believe that the suffering of Milagritos ended the day we rescued him. But little did we know what was in store for him.

  • Spanish Guardia Civil – law enforcers? What a joke!

Guardia Civi 250 wikipedia One of the things which I find really frustrating is how much back biting goes on between refuges and associations, whether in Spain, Belgium, France…… At the end of the day, for me, it is about the dogs, who cares who is ‘president’ of which association, who runs what refuge so long as it complies with GEE. For goodness sake, it’s about the animals, not about people and politics….

I was in a car park in Spain and where a little puppy, probably about 5 months old, looked like a x poodle, was wandering around loose. I went to take it up when a couple of young Spanish restrained me. It was their puppy, they said. As I don’t speak Spanish, I was unable to answer them as I would have liked to. I dread to think of how it ended up…certainly not microchipped, vaccinated and in a loving family home….more likely in a shelter, if it hadn’t been killed by a lorry driving into the car park.

  • Floods in Cordoba – Nightmare for animal refuges!

Villa del Rio 4 250 21 05 2011 Message from Sandra Baas of Baas Galgo (website offline at the moment due to a bloody hacker!)

    Dear Friends

I never thought that I would have to write to you in this way, but we are so desperate and we so badly need your help; that we have no other choice.

Last Wednesday, May 18th, a terrible flood completely destroyed the BaasGalgo shelter in Villa del Rio in southern Spain. Consequently, 100 Galgos who were in the refuge have been left without anywhere to live. All the facilities have been destroyed by the flooding. The situation is extremely serious. We can without exaggeration say that we lost absolutely everything!

  • Cordoba galga and puppies – anyone any room for them?

Mami Cordoba 250 20 05 2011 Here is a nice story about a galga and her puppies – after two days of hard work and a long wait this family have been rescued. The pups were the first to be rescued, they are two females, Margarita and Alegría, and three males, Wolf, Flip and Taz. They’re small, about 2 or 3 months, and moderate size, have every appearance of galgos but with an abandoned galga mom, one can never be sure. The mom hasbeen called Mami; in order to catch her, one of the puppies was used as a decoy, to persuade her to follow the volunteers through streets in the city until they could catch her.

She is a beautiful young dog, large size, white with black spots, has a lot of fear but wants to be loving. The family are now safe, but El Arca de Noe has nowhere to put them, can anyone help? If you can help write to elarcadenoecordoba@gmail.com

UPDATE – I’m happy to report that this galga and puppies have now been taken in by two refuges.
