  • Murcia – illegally ‘training’ galgos – the police turn a blind eye!

Training galgos Murcia 250 22 10 2012Running galgos alongside a motorised vehicle – motorbike, car, van, quad bike, is illegal in Spain – except that Andalucia Junta have just passed a law to rescind this – and make it legal again. I have participated in a rescue from Spain which included a galga which had been very badly injured in this way – she went down and was dragged….photos of her are in my book. Paco luckily had great medical, physical and mental care – swimming physio, massage etc. and is now happily in a forever home in France.

This photo was taken in Murcia last week – October 2012. The man is breaking the law. The person who took the photo is a neighbour and frightened of making a denuncia because she and her family would suffer repurcussions from the hunting fraternity. Seprona won’t do anything – they are hunters too.

Here are some of the comments from the Galgos del Sol Facebook page.

  • Maltreated in Murcia

Galgo pup broken leg 250 22 10 2012This young galgo is only 6 months old and already knows the bloody brutality of man. A call was received that a young dog was crying hysterically in some shrubs, obviously hurt. The volunteers went along and managed to lift it out, and immediately took it to the vet, where its injured leg was x-rayed. The verdit of the vet – the injury was not the result of an accident or a fall, but the bone was broken as a result of brutal kicking or beating with a stick or stone.

He has now been operated on and his leg bones pinned together.

  • Life of Hell for dogs in Cartegena, Murcia – Associations please join in to protect them!

Cartegena 1 250 Galgos in south Africa simialr to what I saw in La MagdalenaThis photo is of greyhounds in South Africa. The same thing is going on in Spain with galgos. I’ve received this report and it absolutely sickens me. The Spanish – probably mainly men – in authority turn a blind eye – their hunter ‘brethren’ can get away with torture and murder – BUT let an animal rescue association try to help the dogs. And then there is Hell to Pay from the authorities! Corrupt bastards! Haven’t we had enough of cronyism?!. The majority of them are men, but a few are women. And that sickens me more – they are probably mothers – they give life to a human – they should treasure the birth of life….but life in an animal means nothing to them. They at times are worse than the men!

Cartagena is apparently one of the worst area in Murcia for cruelty against animals.

  • Saturday, 25th August 2012 – La Magdalena, Murcia – Fun Day

ACTIN summer fun day poster pic 210ACTIN is an association formed in 2012 and they are holding a Fun Day on Saturday, 25th August at La Magdalena, Murcia, to raise funds for their work. They need support to start the process of reducing the numbers of abandoned puppies, kittens, dogs and cats in the region, so have decided to try and raise money for a mobile veterinary unit, which will visit the outlying villages and do basic care advice, inoculations and neutering. So if you live in the area or are going on holiday to Murcia during August, please go along and support the event.

Viv Wharton explains the aims of ACTIN.

  • Galgos del Sol – saving yet more abandoned galgos in Murcia

Skip galgo 1 250 – Yes, there’s a galga dumped in there! You will remember the rescue of the Bullas dogs in Operation Rehala in January and then the Mazarron dogs from the gypsy in Murcia as well. Galgos del Sol have been very involved in these operations, taking many dogs into their care. This week they have rescued another half dozen abandoned galgos, one of whom had been dumped in a skip! – Luckily he has not been beaten almost to death- like esperanza a couple of years ago – just injured and terrified.

    Here’s the story so far.

‘It’s impossible to try and holiday when you live in Murcia. Galgos del Sol gets a call and goes out again and what do we find..?? A galga trapped in the rubbish dumpster and 3 galgos living on the rubbish tip. The galga trapped was very difficult because she was scared so we she would become aggresive when we tried to climb in, and the others were not so easy either.

  • Murcia – June 2012 – Spanish hunters still perpetrating unbelievable cruelty on their galgos – THIS HAS TO STOP!

    News in from Scooby Medina.

Murcia: More than 16 murdered galgos found in a village in Murcia with signs that they were violently mistreated. The same galgueros there have more galgos, these were seen this week without water or food and with these hot summer temperatures…

This is a place where several hunters keep their dogs in the worst possible conditions and where they horribly kill the ones they no longer want. Murcia is a dreadful place for animals, especially galgos, and there are many such places we don’t know about. Everyone should raise a stink. But the police need to have a chance to act ( it’s the first time they act, in that part of Spain they mostly completely ignore the cruelty cases) or we can make them angry and they can just turn their backs for good.

    WARNING. EXTREMELY UPSETTING PHOTOS
