Just received this picture from a lovely French couple who were thrilled to have a dog show to which they could take their crossbreed dog and enter some classes. They clamoured for a repeat of the show next year – he’s even offered to bring his Unusual Poultry – Buff Orpington etc. I said, OK as long as they are in cages and well protected from hunting dogs! Bruce and Dielette are on the left, Anji and I are on the right with Sahara. Judge Stephen Moon is in the centre in the blue shirt.

Scooby Holland hold a ScoobyDay!
Last weekend, Scooby Holland held their annual ScoobyDay and here’s the link to view the pictures.
It says that the day was a great succes, the weather was fine (with only a couple of showers) and there were lots of dogs. Furthermore there were shops with all kinds of things to buy for the dogs, for the benefit of Scooby and other Galgo organisations.
There was a joint walk in Soestduinen, a wonderful area where sighthounds can run free and Fermín Perez was present for a chat and if you wanted he would pose for a picture. There were also other volunteers from Scooby present for everybody to meet and talk to. So it was a wonderful happening. -
Join the Campaign – write to the Junta Andalucia, Spain – protest!
Look at the faces of these people. They are the Junta in Andalucia. They have just passed a law allowing galgos to be run beside motorbikes, to train them for galgo racing! Below is a letter which El Refugio Escuela have put together. Please copy it and email to the address given. I have asked for a postal address too, as we all know that email addresses can be blocked.
We have to let these people know that this is NOT acceptable. Please support this campaign.

Fiesta des Galgos 2010, American style! Galgos galore rehomed from Spain
In support of Charl del Rio’s annual Fiesta des Galgos, held at the beginning of December, I organised my Fete des Galgos in France on 12th September (the weather’s better than in December!) and GRIN in America organised their Fiesta des Galgos picnic on 19th September. You can already see the pix of my Fun Dog Show for the event, and here’s a few pix of the American event. Check out Mr & Mrs Spain – it could only happen in America, bless them! As a result of this event, GRIN were able to send donations to help Silvia in Valencia pay for the veterinary treatment for the galgos and podencos in her care.

Celebrating the Galgos in France – 1st Fete des Galgos
Sunday, 12th September was the date organised for our first Fun Dog Show, Fete des Galgos, Craft Fair, display of classic cars and motorcycles and Have a Go Archery. There should also have been a display of dog agility, but the French club decided not come! Their loss, as everyone had a fantastic day and there have been many demands to repeat the event next year. So, 11th September 2011 is the date and the event will be even bigger. I won’t say better, because everyone keeps saying what a marvellous day it was.
Our wonderful very experienced dog show Judge, Stephen Moon, tells me his friend Graham, who has offered to judge the show next year, will also be judging at Crufts show in England next year! Can’t get better than that. Stephen said he thoroughly enjoyed his day, said what a lovely attitude the participants had. The show was meant to be fun, and that is exactly what it was.
So, folks, here’s a picture gallery to share with you. And remember that, on the same day, brave Lisa jumped out of an aeroplane at 5,000 feet over Seville, Spain, to celebrate our day too. If you haven’t donated to her marvellous achievement, please email a Paypal donation to comdelrio@hotmail.com for the association 112 Carlota Galgos.

Urgent message for anyone in the Osun, Seville area – or anywhere!!! These are 9 galgo puppies existing in a railway yard at the side of a road – the gitanos (gypsies) are hovering. There is no sign of their mother. They need to be lifted to safety to foster homes for adoption. It is extremely urgent, hunting is due to start shortly.

Regular readers will know that, for the past 3 years at the beginning of December, Charl has organised a Fiesta des Galgos in Malaga, where she lives. She’s just formed her own association 112carlotagalgos and from 12th -19th September, Fiesta des Galgos goes International!
It commences with Lisa’s 5,000ft parachute jump on 12th September, which is the same day as my own Fete des Galgos at my home in France. My event is a Fun Dog Show, plus Craft Fair, Have A Go Archery and display of classic and interesting cars and bikes. The following weekend on 19th September, GRIN in the US are holding a BIG galgo picnic.

Parachuting for the galgos – sponsor Lisa’s jump on 12th September
Lisa Ingram hails from the North West of England but now lives in Spain. She is a great friend and supporter of Charl del Rio, who has just launched her association 112 Carlota Galgos, with the main intention of educating the young Spanish that animals are sentient being and should be respected and cared for.
As the first fundraiser for the association, Lisa has volunteered to jump out of a plane! Here’s what the Liverpool Echo newspaper wrote.
