  • Celebrating the Galgos in France – 1st Fete des Galgos

Sunday, 12th September was the date organised for our first Fun Dog Show, Fete des Galgos, Craft Fair, display of classic cars and motorcycles and Have a Go Archery. There should also have been a display of dog agility, but the French club decided not come! Their loss, as everyone had a fantastic day and there have been many demands to repeat the event next year. So, 11th September 2011 is the date and the event will be even bigger. I won’t say better, because everyone keeps saying what a marvellous day it was.

Our wonderful very experienced dog show Judge, Stephen Moon, tells me his friend Graham, who has offered to judge the show next year, will also be judging at Crufts show in England next year! Can’t get better than that. Stephen said he thoroughly enjoyed his day, said what a lovely attitude the participants had. The show was meant to be fun, and that is exactly what it was.

So, folks, here’s a picture gallery to share with you. And remember that, on the same day, brave Lisa jumped out of an aeroplane at 5,000 feet over Seville, Spain, to celebrate our day too. If you haven’t donated to her marvellous achievement, please email a Paypal donation to comdelrio@hotmail.com for the association 112 Carlota Galgos.

  • Starving & dying galgos and puppies – Cuencanimal need help with vet fees

Starving puppy Cuencanimal 08 2010 250 And another story of galgos and some other breeds found in appalling conditions. This is the story from Cuencanimal.

We request your assistance because, whilst looking for land to be able to finally build a refuge supported by several rescuer associations, we found a awful case. Some 27 dogs in a regrettable state, there are several deaths from malnutrition among the pups, and there are animals with mange, wounds, you cannot imagine….

We do not have a refuge, and that’s why we cannot assume this case alone. We took out 2 pups, one of them died because of weakness.

  • Parachuting for the galgos – sponsor Lisa’s jump on 12th September

TeamExtreme (1).JPG cropped 200 Lisa Ingram hails from the North West of England but now lives in Spain. She is a great friend and supporter of Charl del Rio, who has just launched her association 112 Carlota Galgos, with the main intention of educating the young Spanish that animals are sentient being and should be respected and cared for.

As the first fundraiser for the association, Lisa has volunteered to jump out of a plane! Here’s what the Liverpool Echo newspaper wrote.

  • Parachute Jump for the Galgos

Charl and_Neptuno 250 Tireless campaigner for galgos Charl del Rio now has her own association, through which she will concentrate on educating the young Spanish to respect and care for animals, as well as rescuing abandoned galgos and podencos when a call comes in. Her friend Lisa Ingram is planning a parachute jump to publicise the plight of the galgos, to tie in with the Fete des Galgos in France (which will be held at my home) and the Fiesta des Galgos the following weekend in USA, both in the middle of September.

  • Another petition for the galgos

Here is another petition about the galgos. I am posting the link, but I have doubts about the accusation that dogs in perreras are clubbed to death. If anyone has any proof of this, I will be interested to receive it.

  • Spain’s Catalonia bans bullfighting! There’s hope yet for saving the galgos.

This is a report on Yahoo

    Spain’s Catalonia bans bullfighting.

The result of 68 in favour, 55 against the prohibition was expected, since the Catalonian parliament had cast preliminary votes in December accepting a citizens’ petition to outlaw bullfighting on the grounds that it was cruelty to animals. There were nine abstentions.

  • Podenco Shadow in his forever home – escaped from life on the streets in SpainSha

Some of you may remember Shadow, a little podenco with Sofia El Refugio Escuela in Seville, looking for a forever home. He looked so much like a male version of my little Podenca Andaluz Bebe, who was rescued injured on a Seville motorway. Have a look at the pictures on this link of Shadow in his forever home, plus Leela and Esther, a couple more galgos who have also found paradise in homes outside Spain.
