  • Operation Rehala, Bullas, Murcia – please help the podencos too

Los Perros de Bullas – Today (8th March 2012) it has been agreed with much teamwork from The Little Pod Foundation, SOS Animals UK, the Animal Welfare Support Murcia group and Podenco Friends to find temporary care and rescue for some of the misfortunate Podencos in the Bullas tragedy. If the rescue is successful, it is hoped that between 8 and 10 dogs will be saved, plus any puppies that are still there. Friday 9th March 2012 is the ONLY day now permitted to rescue any of these dogs.

  • Holidays in Toledo – hotels in Toledo……

Sugus after op 250 3 3 2012You may remember Caramelo, dying underneath a tree in a village near Toledo. Rescued by Baas Galgo and now transforming into the beautiful galgo he is. This is another one found in the same village outside Toledo. He’s been named Sugus. Here’s what Baas Galgo say.

‘Cursed is the man who has deny you his support during the days that you are in these conditions. Leticia has stopped the car and has picked you up, you were walking this morning under a downpour, you were shivering, frightened, killed by the pain, wandering aimlessly…….. bastard who threw you away!

  • La Bienvenida, Ciudad Real – moving date Easter, no room for all the dogs!

300 meeting KarmelThis story is particularly sad for me. La Bienvenida, Cuidad Real, is the first refuge I visited in Spain and from where I adopted my first galga, Karmel (pic is my first meeting with her). The refuge is 200km south of Madrid.Protectora La Bienvenida

The shelter will move to a new building around Easter. That sounds nice and it is,but not for all the dogs: because at the moment there are many more dogs then there should be, it means that lots of them cannot go into the new shelter!!
It means they have nowhere to go !!

  • Galgueros – the truth of how they keep their dogs! Shame on Spanish hunters.

Two videos to show the truth about how the galgueros keep their dogs – and horses. And they also illustrate the difficulty in changing the situation – these are the older generation of Spaniards, who do not understand that what they do is animal cruelty, that they blacken the image of Spain around the world, thereby hurting the responsible people – the younger generations to a large extent – who abhor this publicity, and abhor the cruelty. Video 1 Video 2 Oh how I’d like to shut these men in the pitch black locked bunkers where they keep their dogs, to live in their own shit!

  • Seville to Malaga, walking the streets of Spain

Polyana%20rescue 190Here’s the story of yet another abandoned galgo; it’s typical of the hundreds across Spain, now dumped and abandoned by the hunters to whatever fate befalls them – the hunters have no mercy, they don’t care.

Polyana – a brindle galga walking the streets in Sevilla, lost and alone.
Thrown out as trash and unwanted purpose with a story to tell of being a galga in Spain. Beaten down and feeling low, she wanders and begs, sneaking food where she can. Empty bins may have spilt a crumb, gravel on the floor may just have a grain, its not much to keep going but it could ease the pain.

  • From the heart of a galgo ….appeal from a galgo

    I do not mind running
    … or hunting for you
That is how I am built
    That is what I do
But why do you hurt me
When with me you are done
    You kill or desert me
    When I no longer won
I am a galgo of soft eyes
    And softer demeanor
    I love all my humans
And am quite a good learner
Please do not throw me away
In your heart let me stay
