Slovenia Sighthound World Auction started 29th August – raising funds for Scooby
There’s an auction running this week on Facebook organised by Slovenia Sighthound World to raise funds in response to the Scooby appeal. Whilst the information is not in English, you can quite clearly see the beautiful items on offer. Larisa of SSW says
‘If people from abroad want to bid and need more information about the auction or the items offered, in English language, if they contact us on galgo@hrtjisvet.org and we will gladly assist them. Information about the payment and delivery will be discussed individually, after they place an offer. Payment for the items will be via paypal and the items will be sent via DHL or other post services, but the postal charges must be paid by the people to successfully bid the item. Dying at the side of a Spanish railway – please help the puppy saved by El Albergue
You will remember the story of Esperanza, the badly beaten galga rescued from a garbage bin and being rehabilitated by El Albergue. They have sent an appeal for help to pay vet fees for a little puppy with a broken leg, dying at the side of the railway. It’s not a galgo or podenco, but if you have it in your heart to donate towards the vet fees to help this little soul recover, please click on Donar

Toledo hanged galga – L’Europe des Levriers helps heal her wounds
Do you remember the story of the hanged galga saved by Letitia and taken to the home of Cristina, vice president of L’Europe des Levriers? Here is the latest news about her.
She is now called “Campanilla” (Bell in Spanish) and she lives in home in Cristina in Madrid. It is the poor galga who was hanged and Leti found wandering the streets of a village near Toledo. The rope had cut her neck under the trachea and she was suffering from severe malnutrition. The veterinarian of Toledo did an excellent job of repairing her wounds to pepare her for transporting to a Madrid clinic where Cristina could look after her. She remained there a week and last Monday she went to Cristina’s home.

Do you know the fight for life which goes on there – behind the beaches and bars? 112carlotagalgo is a small association which has been fighting for years for a better life for the Spanish galgos and podencos. They have dogs waiting for their forever homes now, here is the current position about two of them, Nora the Galga and Angela the Podenca.
‘The photo doesnt do her justice as to the delicate figure that she is. This is Nora! she weighs in at 15.kilos 70 a slight shadow of a galga. Brindle, scars and wounds.. she came to us on Thursday.

Hunting in Spain, on horseback, with dogs –
This link is to a Spanish hunting federation. Whilst I curse every breath these men and women take, if you watch the video, you will see what hunting with galgos is all about. Not only does a hare have to run for its life, but the bloody hunters riding horses….knacker the horses’ feet and legs on the hard ground – the horses will feel so much pain after the gallop and they are probably lame for weeks, if not permanently. More horse meat for the Italian market? (Apologies to my Italian readers, but where else will the knackered horses go?) Hey, and you horse riders like me, what sort of crap riding seat has this woman hunter?!! Seat too far back on the saddle, so pressure on the horse’s kidneys, legs too short for a gallop, toes pointing forward, not sitting balanced in the centre of the saddle……grrrrrr – crap rider.
