    Hung Galgo Badajoz 15 11 2011 190I make no apologies for posting this photo. On 15th November 2011, this galgo was found hanged by schoolchildren who went hiking in the SIERRA DE TENTUDIA, Badajoz, Extremadura.

    The hunters still claim they do not hang dogs, that all reports are exaggerated. The truth is out there on the Internet for the world to see – THEY LIE

    Pray for the soul of this poor galgo, that its suffering is at an end. Curse the bastard who did this and brings shame on a country where so many brave people work to stop the cruelty, and whose lives are threatened if they expose the truth.

  • Galgo lucky to be alive – between the main road and the train tracks in Seville!

    Galgo train track 2 macu 11 2011 250Trying hard to catch up with all the news, as I had to go to the UK urgently and didn’t have access to Internet. But that didn’t stop the appeals coming into my Inbox, galgos galore being abandoned everywhere, dumped in killing stations by the dozen…it doesn’t get any easier for the volunteers,.

    Here’s a galgo rescued from the side of a railway track and a main road. No chip, about two years old. Macu has taken him in but desperately needs a shelter or foster home for him. He’s in Seville. Can anyone help? Contact macu19782010@hotmail.com mobile 665809169 Sevilla

  • Pro-Galgo; who let the dogs out? What the rescuers cope with.

    Hi folks. Back in touch after a week in the UK looking after my mother in law, who had suffered a very mild stroke. And can you believe this news from Mo Swatek of Pro-Galgo. An example of what the Spanish volunteers and rescue workers have to cope with.

    Mo has already suffered flooding recently. Whilst she was out on Monday, someone broke into the house and let out all her dogs. Read the story here.

  • Galgo Bracken’s story – Murcia to France to his forever family in the UK

    We took my last foster boy Bracken to his forever home in the Uk at the beginning of October. Here’s a video of his story. I’m pleased to say he has settled in well with his 3 canine companions, one of which is a 3-legged greyhound. Have a happy life, Bracken.

    It’s been a busy time for the associations in Spain, working with Greyhounds in Need to rehome galgos. Read the latest news on this link

    Amd Levriers sans Frontieres (Galgos without Borders) has recently brought some more from Scooby Medina for rehoming in France. Here’s a link to view pictures of their work and their dogs – it’s in French but that doesn’t matter, pictures cross all languages!

  • Catching a galga and puppies – volunteers face this all the time

    Zoe 250 1 10 2011This is the story in pictures of the capture of galgo Zoe and her pups, out in the wilds of Murcia. It took a week to catch her, adn then only by using a tranquiliser dart. Thanks to the incredible team of Tina and Gill of Galgos del Sol and to Antonio with his dart gun.

    And you can also read about Leanne; they’ve been trying for 18 months to catch her!

    It’s another example of what so many of the rescue associations and volunteers cope with, the strain of what they live with, and how long it can take to catch a frightened galga.   • El Arca de Noe, Cordoba – condemning the hunters – shame on these men!

    Cordoba galga 3 250 01 11 2011I try not to post really bad pix on GN because I don’t want to turn people away from reading about life for the galgos and volunteers in Spain. But I make no apologies for posting these photos of Lia, luckily she is with El Arca de Noe in Cordoba. Here’s the story and appeal, in the words of the volunteer.

    ‘WE HAVE RESCUED LIA AND SHE IS HOSPITALISED. SHE HAS LOST THE WILL TO LIVE, THE WOUND IS HORRIBLE, SHE IS BLEEDING FROM HER VAGINA A LOT. SHE CANNOT STAND UP. LIA WAS LETTING HERSELF DIE BUT WE REACHED HER IN TIME, ALTHOUGH WE DONT KNOW IF SHE WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE. BUT WE ARE TRYING AT LEAST.

  • The horror of Las Cuadras, Seville – the reality of life for the animals there

    Las Cuadras EDL 250 01 2011L’Europe des Levriers is the French association from whom I adopted my 3 galgos and with whom I have worked on rescues. This is the story of the gypsy camp of Las Cuadras in Seville, as told by their President, Beatrice Monnet, on their website. At the end of this report, you can see a video of the Fundacion Benjamin Menhert on one of their rescues – 600 dogs taken out of the camp in one year!

    ‘Since its inception in 2006, L’Europe des Levriers has repeatedly denounced the terrible camp galgueros Las Cuadras in Seville. Cristina, our Vice President, regularly rescues galgos and podencos from this hell. We go to our kennels in Madrid every 3 or 4 months to bring these rescued dogs to France for adoption.
