Malaga perrera – galgos on death row – starving – anyone room for them?
This is the harsh reality for dogs dumped in the municipal and private perreras – killing stations. It’s any dog which suffers like this, not just the galgos. But for the galgos, it’s simply that hunting is drawing to a close and the galgueros are dumping their dogs. These dogs are/were in the perrera El Paraiso at Malaga (some have already been killed). International Dog Show, Milan – European Greyhound Network have a stand
European Greyhound Network is the Italian group helping galgos and many rescued dogs have found forever homes there. Next weekend they are having a stand at the 47th International Dog Show in Milan. The event will be in the pavilions of the Fiera Milano Rho on 14 and 15 January and EGN wil be in Hall 22 for the duration of the event. The Hell of Toledo – graveyard for galgos
You’re not wrong, this is a grave – a galgo’s grave. Toledo yet again! This is the story from Baas Galgo.
‘On December 18th we found a new cemetery of galgos in the province of Toledo. We received an anonymous phonecall telling us that at this point galgueros (hunters) massively kill and bury their dogs. There were 4 bodies in sight, put in sealed bags, in an advanced state of decomposition, two of them with microchip. Two galgos without chips had been hanged, some shot without a chip and several dogs which were only skeletons. We have made a denuncia and we await the results of the investigations by the Guardia Civil.’

Toledo, hell for galgos – left injured in an irrigation channel – Baas Galgo again
Toledo, another Spanish hell for galgos. We’ve already had galgos – yes, there was more than one – in a deep gorge from which they could not escape, other than starvation and death. Now we have one in a drainage channel, with a broken leg. Some of you might say ‘well the galgos could have run into the gorge, and the drainage channel’. Those involved in their rescue have their doubts. And they are on the ground, to assess.
Here’s yet another galgo in Toledo who was left, injured, where starvation and a painful death were his only options – if he hadn’t been spotted by someone sympathetic to animals.

A volunteer reports. ‘This week is especially had with the arrival of many galgos and dogs that have been used for hunting and now already kicked out by the thugs of hunters. S.O.S KENNEL BADAJOZ! Curse the hunters and people close to them!

Young galga needs someone to take her from the galguera – Badajoz
This little galga in Badajoz is only a year old, and nervous. Her galguera (female, note) says she will not hunt and so she doesn’t want it. I suppose we should be grateful so far she hasn’t abandoned it nor taken it to the perrera. Hopefully one of the Spanish associations or volunteers has taken her. It’s an example of what is going on all the time now, the pressure the volunteers and associations are under. Here’s the email contact, if anyone can help.

I took this off Facebook today. Please read this article with an open mind before taking the familiar and very unfortunate question: “With the children who are starving, let’s save a dog ? “.Yes, there are many children who die of hunger, but, fortunately, not in Spain.
In Spain one hundred thousand dogs are abandoned each year. With the advent of the crisis, kennels and shelters have been saturated. And this epidemic of dropouts shows me what I already knew: if you buy a dog as one who buys a bag, pay for a puppy just because the breed has become fashionable, it is as likely to leave as you stop wearing the bag when season pass.
