Spanish Galgo massacred for Christmas – never ending

Friday, December 23, 2011 Another galgo massacred. Christmas in Spain.

An association volunteer reports. This is horrible, is a non-stop.

When we are collecting a galgo Marlon from the clinic where he had jhad an operation, we received a call from someone who sees this horror and asks for help for her.

Immediately one of our volunteers and the veterinary of the protectora went to the area from where comes this call. They could find nothing, asked lots of people if they had seen an injured galgo and received a range of derogatory comments towards the animal, they heard a moan and ran to the sound. This is what greeted them, it left them speechless.

According to a report of the story on Facebook, the dog is still alive, another report says it was too late to save it.

Yes, Jen, that is the poor galgo. As I say,
the report on Save the Galgo says the galgo was alive, another that it had
died, nothing more known, just hoping other people post on Fb and Ill
    copy.
Thanks for caring, and also for your story about
the poor British greyhounds with ears cut off etc.
Sending you and your family Christmas Wishes

Spain does not have a galgo podenco problem, spain has a hunter problem. Each hunt club and each private hunter should be taxed or charged to cover costs and atrocities against these beautiful dogs and a protocol for their rehoming when no longer needed or wanted for hunting. The stress should be upon the outrage and cost to the public to set the fine or tax for these noble animals. Maybe then they will learn the value these animals. Consider the police and rescue costs, the dog pound costs, the distress to the innocent children seeing these tortured and dead animals in the streets and most of all a system of rewards for anyone who knows of or finds or sees acts of cruelty against these dogs, of course this cost to be borne by the hunters themselves and their hunt clubs

You are, of course, absolutely right! It is
the plight of the galgos and podencos, but the problem is the bloody
hunters. And how do we change that, when Spain has a king who hunts
bears?!! I agree totally with what you say, and so do thousands of Spanish
people who care about animals and the bad image the hunters give of their
country to others elsewhere in the world. Would you like to compose a
letter which I could run as a campaign on Galgo News, and to send to the
government, regional councils and hunting federations? Ive been trying to
put time aside to compose one, but so many appeals come in, so many people want
assistance behind the scenes of my weblogs, that Ive not been able to compose
much of a draft. Ill happily run a letter-writing campaign if you would
like to email me a letter, and I can get it translated into Spanish too.

Thank you for posting and caring.
