Toledo, hell for galgos – left injured in an irrigation channel – Baas Galgo again

Toledo, another Spanish hell for galgos. We’ve already had galgos – yes, there was more than one – in a deep gorge from which they could not escape, other than starvation and death. Now we have one in a drainage channel, with a broken leg. Some of you might say ‘well the galgos could have run into the gorge, and the drainage channel’. Those involved in their rescue have their doubts. And they are on the ground, to assess.

Here’s yet another galgo in Toledo who was left, injured, where starvation and a painful death were his only options – if he hadn’t been spotted by someone sympathetic to animals.

Baas Galgo tell his story.

‘You have been paid your goodness and faithfulness in this way…..you broke your leg while you where hunting, the only thing you learnt when you were a puppy were….rabbits, hares and a bad life…

You have been thrown to the Sagra’s canal, an irrigation canal with walls up of 3 meters, an aisle with no exit, no food, no escape to a slow and painful death, especially as you had an injured leg and couldn’t climb; you needed a miracle and we heard your call …

Paquito, just 2 years old and with a broken femur, has been thrown into oblivion, like a waste and his microchip has been ripped him out of him so as not identify him.

He has broken the femur near the head with the hip which also splintered…

It’s a serious fracture and yesterday he was admitted to the veterinary center to recover from his poor physical condition, caused by dehydration and lack of food, which has done him much harm.

He had his surgery done the day, was back home yesterday with Leti but things did not go well and he had to go back to the clinic. He needs 2 weeks of absolute rest now…and good energy in order to recover. Now Leticia, Jorge and his parents take turns to stay with him since he panics when he is alone …He got a blood transfusion yesterday from Leti’s podenco, since he lost so much blood…..The first operation cost us 350 euros…let see how many more will have to follow…only in time we will know.

In less than a month more than 15 animals have reached us at Baas Galgo in a precarious state, wounded, sick, thrown in ravines … and unfortunately for all of this resources are required, resources that governments don’t give to centers like ours, because the NGOs of animal relief don’t have any kind of public support, it is easier to finance municipal killing stations …
