  • The hung galgos of Fuensilada, Toledo – update on the court case

    Baas Galgo court case poster 190 7 2013You may remember the case of the two galgos in Toledo who had been hung by their owner. Their microchips had not been removed and he was traced. Associacion Baas Galgo took him to court. Here is the update from Sandra Baas.

    ‘On October 9th, a court trial will take place at Juzgado n1 de lo Penal de Toledo for the man who murdered his two galgos by ways of hanging. Two years ago, the corpses of the two young dogs (one was 22 months old, the other was 5 years old) were found in the Fuensalida, Toledo location. The dogs had been hung and killed. One of the dogs, had a microchip which identified their owner, who confessed to the massacre and told the judge that he was not aware that hanging his dogs was considered illegal and that he did so because they were deemed “ineffective” since they were not successful hunting dogs.

  • Heartbreak for Baas Galgo in Cordoba and Toledo

    Baas sick puppy 190 8 2012Heartbreak for Baas Galgo in Cordoba. Sandra explains.

    ‘Sad news again…besides the death of two sister puppies hours after being admitted, the admitted puppies in Cordoba have Parvovirus as well. The vet finds it very difficult to think that they can survive…….. … they are puppies and they were given to us very starving, their immune system is under minimum and this is the worst that could happened to them….

    In addition to it we have five puppies at the shelter who MUST be out of there this weekend … and two more puppies have to be admittde … we REALLY need foster houses and financial aid … one more effort…….. please. We are working under minimal since emotionally we are having a rotten time … these news sadden us and emotionally our strength start to fail us.

    ‘As you know, the Galgo Holocaust can be in any season. While much of the population are enjoying their holidays, our little martyrs continue to suffer mistreatment and neglect, withstanding high temperatures and trying to survive. And while that much of the population enjoying their holidays, our Baas team is ALWAYS ready for a fight, no matter what season is, with a common goal: to do justice.

  • Holidays in Toledo – hotels in Toledo……

    Sugus after op 250 3 3 2012You may remember Caramelo, dying underneath a tree in a village near Toledo. Rescued by Baas Galgo and now transforming into the beautiful galgo he is. This is another one found in the same village outside Toledo. He’s been named Sugus. Here’s what Baas Galgo say.

    ‘Cursed is the man who has deny you his support during the days that you are in these conditions. Leticia has stopped the car and has picked you up, you were walking this morning under a downpour, you were shivering, frightened, killed by the pain, wandering aimlessly…….. bastard who threw you away!

  • Toledo galga – safe and treated.

    Toledo blind galga grace2 190Good news for a change. This is the Toleda galga, blind. Now named Grace and in foster care, she had a bad case of conjunctivitis. You can see how well it is clearing up, with treatment. Isn’t she an absolute beauty! If you want to apply to adopt her, contact one of the two rescue associations direct.

  • Update on Toledo galga – Galgo Leku or Galgos 112?

    Below is an update on the Toledo galga with the eye problem, which was posted on my Save the Galgo page on Facebook. I am uncertain from the translation whether Galgos 112 or Galgo Leku have taken the galga (I think Galgos 112 but there is no news of her on their website) but, either way, she is with an organisation which will ensure she has veterinary treatment.

    Many of you ask for updates on what happens to the appeals I post on Galgo News and this is an illustration of how difficult it is for me, if the associations who take the dogs do not themselves send me news.

  • Urgent – blinded galga needs a safe shelter for treatment – Toledo again!!

    ‘This morning when I was coming from the Talavera hospital, this galguita was in a service area. I have seen she is very, very weak and something happens to her in her eyes that they close and they weep a lot.

  • Toledo – dying on the street – Baas Galgo to the rescue

    Caramelo 250 Baas 15 2 2012If you look carefully, you can see a galgo curled up under this tree. Sandra Baas tells the story. ‘They thought he was dead, but when they came closer, they found out this poor boy was still alive. His story in short:

    They named him Caramelo (Caramel). He is skin over bones, and has been shot several times. There are leads everywhere on one side of his body but mainly in his front and back legs. There are also leads that got into his body and those are dangerous. This gorgeous boy has a long way to go before he is healthy again.

  • The Hell of Toledo – graveyard for galgos

    Graveyard mound 1 190 1 2012You’re not wrong, this is a grave – a galgo’s grave. Toledo yet again! This is the story from Baas Galgo.

    ‘On December 18th we found a new cemetery of galgos in the province of Toledo. We received an anonymous phonecall telling us that at this point galgueros (hunters) massively kill and bury their dogs. There were 4 bodies in sight, put in sealed bags, in an advanced state of decomposition, two of them with microchip. Two galgos without chips had been hanged, some shot without a chip and several dogs which were only skeletons. We have made a denuncia and we await the results of the investigations by the Guardia Civil.’
