The hung galgos of Fuensilada, Toledo – update on the court case

Baas Galgo court case poster 190 7 2013You may remember the case of the two galgos in Toledo who had been hung by their owner. Their microchips had not been removed and he was traced. Associacion Baas Galgo took him to court. Here is the update from Sandra Baas.

‘On October 9th, a court trial will take place at Juzgado n1 de lo Penal de Toledo for the man who murdered his two galgos by ways of hanging. Two years ago, the corpses of the two young dogs (one was 22 months old, the other was 5 years old) were found in the Fuensalida, Toledo location. The dogs had been hung and killed. One of the dogs, had a microchip which identified their owner, who confessed to the massacre and told the judge that he was not aware that hanging his dogs was considered illegal and that he did so because they were deemed “ineffective” since they were not successful hunting dogs.

Given these facts, the court agreed to open the case in 2011. The Baas Galgo association personally has requested together with Sergio Garci-Valle, a lawyer who specializes in these types of cases, that the perpetrator receive at least 1 year of prison per dog as well as pay of over 6000 euros in fines.

We feel that this is case will really make a difference and makes a statement to others about the plight of these dogs and the overall fight for animal rights. We ask for this reason, for help spreading the word as much as possible in order to receive the maximum social and media repercussion. We have been faced with a great opportunity.

Here is the petition to sign, if you haven’t already done so.

Signed, this is brilliant what Baas Galgo are doing. I hope they throw the book at this barbaric scum bag. I hope that this will show these hunters that the brutalising, torture and killing of these beautiful dogs will no longer be tolerated.

Let’s hope justice will be done and the appalling, medieval treatment of these beautiful dogs will cease.
The plight of the Galgo is a dark, ugly shadow over Spain…………….
