  • Trip to Spain 1 – Scooby Residencia Valladolid – adopt Tula

Cobie goods 250I’ve just got back from a trip to Spain, catching up with friends and shelters and the animal rescue work going on. It’s a while since I’ve been; last year was out because I had serious shoulder injuries which required an operation; this year I had serious mobility problems with one of my horses. So my visit was somewhat overdue!

The planned route was Valladolid, Seville and Malaga; then drive straight back via Madrid. My first port of call was Cobie at Scooby Residencia Valladolid. I first met Cobie at a refuge in Cordoba back in June 2009 and she’s been a very useful and knowledgeable contact for me regarding the situation in Spain for the galgos.

  • Visit Seville – see the real Seville

Macu Seville puppy 250 9 2012Province of Seville – September 2012 – the hellish life for galgos continues. This report from Macu, another incredible volunteer who works tirelessly to save the galgos and podencos from a hunting and gypsy village.

A report came to her about many animals in deplorable conditions a village of galgueros. A brave woman, she has been going to this village for 3 years to save dogs, she denounces them all the time and yet the authorities do nothing – Nada, Nada, she says! There is a galgo puppy, a 3 year old galga with a bad hip and a galga which was in danger of being stolen!

  • Life of Hell for dogs in Cartegena, Murcia – Associations please join in to protect them!

Cartegena 1 250 Galgos in south Africa simialr to what I saw in La MagdalenaThis photo is of greyhounds in South Africa. The same thing is going on in Spain with galgos. I’ve received this report and it absolutely sickens me. The Spanish – probably mainly men – in authority turn a blind eye – their hunter ‘brethren’ can get away with torture and murder – BUT let an animal rescue association try to help the dogs. And then there is Hell to Pay from the authorities! Corrupt bastards! Haven’t we had enough of cronyism?!. The majority of them are men, but a few are women. And that sickens me more – they are probably mothers – they give life to a human – they should treasure the birth of life….but life in an animal means nothing to them. They at times are worse than the men!

Cartagena is apparently one of the worst area in Murcia for cruelty against animals.

  • Three more galgos – urgent appeal to save one from the hunter

Cordoba galga 250 1 9 2012The hands and feet in this photo are of a Spanish hunter in Cordoba. The galga, Nadine – see the fear as he crushes her to him, has been a breeding machine for the last 6 years, recently taken away from her last batch of puppies. Now he no longer wants her and is taking her to the perrera. The volunteer has managed to persuade him to keep her a few days whilst she finds somewhere for the galga to go. Please has anyone room, as the volunteer has too many dogs already at home. She is chipped. URGENT. anateremm@gmail.com

The second appeal. September now, hunting has started, and still there are injured and starving galgos on the streets of Spanish towns and cities! This galgo has been on the streets for weeks, but was so terrified that he could not be caught – disappearing at times that the volunteers thought he had gone somewhere to die. But he has reappeared – they’ve called him Wasa, and now he has a shattered hind leg, scavenging around the dustbins on the streets – desperate.

  • Desperate, injured, starving in Cordoba

Grissom 1 8 2012 170Black galgos, starving, injured, all needing help. First of all we have the case of a black galgo who has been named Grissom. He’s got a gun shot wound to his leg, the pellet is still there, and it has broken his leg. He desperately needs surgery etc and that will cost. He was very think when picked up, very loving, but obviously can’t move about on this damaged leg. He’s in foster care with 4 other dogs. If anyone can help, please contact Jenny Pabon plataformanala@gmail.com, or paloma.plataformanala@gmail.com

The second case is really desperate too. Two black galgos (bottom photo) who have been living near some properties in Cicada, Cordoba, for over two months. One of them has neck marks, possibly a hanging mark, they are in a state through lack of food, often take refuge in a stream, so are at risk of the mosquito. The lady can’t take care of them because she has two dogs.

  • Galgos in training – Save the Galgo

Injured pup 170The plight of the galgos has, it seems to me, been worse this year than ever before, and still, all through this summer, volunteers are rescuing starving and injured galgos. A volunteer says, ‘in a month and a half the hunting season with galgos starts again and already the galgueros are training their dogs like crazy to get condition on them, to get stronger muscles, more speed, only to leave them behind later in the fields or perreras if they don´t hunt as they want.

Please, adopt a galgo because there are still many left everywhere from the last season, all in need of a loving family and a forever home! For the end of the hunting with galgos in Spain!!
