Galgos del Sol is a small association formed in October 2010 by Tina Solera, who had spent the previous few years saving galgos and podencos which ended up in Los Infiernos dog shelter. In the past 7 months GdS have rescued and rehomed 53 galgos and podencos. But as with all associations, they exist on donations and fundraising. Here are four of the latest galgos to be rescued – from the side of a motorway, in the middle of a lorry transport area, terrified loose on the campo. Vet fees are mounting, please donate if you can help them.

Voice for the Voiceless – Galga Savia – please help the animals
This is Savia – she is blind! She was found by a Spanish girl and was living in a field near to the old mineworks on the outskirts of Mazarron. Noah’s Arc went to the field where they eventually found SAVIA laying in the sun. When they got near her she
immediately got up and they could see that she had cataracts on both eyes.
Unfortunately when they tried to put a collar and lead on her she took flight. One hour later they managed to catch her. -

Here’s a lovely rehoming story – it’s amazing how rescued galgos cope with so many changes in their lives – different languages as they change countries, travelling hundreds of kilometres to new lives, flying across the Atlantic, then flying on again, across America!

Burgos perrera, white galgo on death row – Seville, Mama galga and 8 puppies, anyone help?
In Spanish history, the White Galgo was revered – it was second in importance only to the birth of a son. There was even a Royal Medal awarded to the white galgo. How they have fallen. Galgo Philby, failed hunter, seeks his forever family
This is Phiby, 3 years old, very affectionate, great with other dogs and cats. Doesn’t like hunting! Has tested negative in leismania, erliquia, chipada and sterilized, comes with adoption contract and monitoring, is in foster in Madrid. Is there an association who has someone who would adopt him forever?

Starving, underweight, sick, just rescued in Murcia – can you help?
Latest guest of Galgos del Sol. Tina says ‘Marie was caught on the streets of Torre Pacheco. This is a town full of abandoned galgos where I am trying to catch Lorenzo. When I got the call i thought it might have been him they caught! It was Antonio who called me to see if we could take her so I said yes. She is injured, extremely underweight which you can’t appreciate in the photos and frightened. She will go to the vets at 5.30pm. We already know NO microchip. (UPDATE 30/03/2011 – she has not been vaccinated as she is too thin, blood test done and sent for analysis)

Galgo Romero goes to his forever home – another incredible survivor of the horror of Spain
Romero is another incredible galgo, abandoned as a puppy, severly ill and injured, terrified of humans, who found his way into the home and heart of an English couple in Murcia and has now joined his forever family.
