A documentary about the work of Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert. It is in Spanish but the pictures tell the tale anyway. Some of the photos of hung galgos are old ones, some are in my book, but the film of the galgos in the hands of the hunter, the fear, the conditions, etc, illustrate just how little these men care for the dogs they have. It also illustrates the rehabilitation work done by the association.

Saving Galgos in Argentina – Adopta un Galgo en Argentina
Thanks to Valarie Woolf for bringing to my attention an association formed last year in Argentina – saving galgos. I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised, a Spanish outpost; last winter I posted a photo of two men laughing, with a hung dog between them.
Here’s the weblink, you’ll have to use a translator to read what they do.

Galgos del Sol – catching the abandoned galgos in Murcia
Galgos del Sol is a small association formed in October 2010 by Tina Solera, who had spent the previous few years saving galgos and podencos which ended up in Los Infiernos dog shelter. In the past 7 months GdS have rescued and rehomed 53 galgos and podencos. But as with all associations, they exist on donations and fundraising. Here are four of the latest galgos to be rescued – from the side of a motorway, in the middle of a lorry transport area, terrified loose on the campo. Vet fees are mounting, please donate if you can help them.

Greyhounds in Nood Belgium – helping the galgos
Please take time to read this news from Greyhounds in Nood Belgium, another group who work tirelessly with volunteers in Spain to help the galgos. Regular trips are made by the team to work in the refuges and bring back dogs for rehoming. You will be horrified to see, towards the end, pictures of two galgos, burned alive on wasteground in Madrid, discovered shortly after gitanos had moved out.
