  • Oco, podenco saved from the streets of Spain, waiting for a forever home

Oco 1 250 Please could anybody offer a forever home to this adorable podenco, currently in foster in southern France.

Oco was found on the streets in Spain with long curly claws. His only friend was a cat and an abandoned galga (Spanish greyhound). His owner didn’t care about him and pretended he’d given him to a friend.

  • Podenco Shadow in his forever home – escaped from life on the streets in SpainSha

Some of you may remember Shadow, a little podenco with Sofia El Refugio Escuela in Seville, looking for a forever home. He looked so much like a male version of my little Podenca Andaluz Bebe, who was rescued injured on a Seville motorway. Have a look at the pictures on this link of Shadow in his forever home, plus Leela and Esther, a couple more galgos who have also found paradise in homes outside Spain.

  • Galgo News Stands Neutral as far as the World Cup goes!

Beryl & Galgas 3 250 Personally, as a Brit, the English football team were a joke. That’s nothing new. We introduced football, cricket, tennis, golf to the world. Whatever we introduce, we then are the losers. Andy Murray put up a good show in tennis, but the footballers – and when you consider what these males are paid????!!! – were pathetic. And why? Because there are so many foreign footballers in the UK football teams that the English team manager can’t find enough decent English players. I could go on further, but I won’t.

Just to say that I support neither Holland nor Spain in the World Cup final. Why? Well, Holland has taken so many rescued galgos to its hearts and homes, but Spain is the home of the galgo, and I could never abandon support – even in the World Cup – for the amazing volunteers who work to rescue, and give shelter to, and rehome abroad, these beautiful innocents who suffer so at the hands of the bastard galgueros.

So, Galgo News stands neutral. But hope you enjoyed the photos and comments from galgos in Holland and Spain!

  • Galgos in Holland say ‘Spain, we are ready for you!’ We will win!

Joke Brussen galga gang 1 world cup 400
Joke Brussen from Holland decked his galgos out to show who they are supporting in the World Cup Final. He says the pic was taken by the police, who thought he was abandoning them! What a wonderful photo!

  • Jerez galgos neutered, thanks to a team of German & Bulgarian vets

Mo Swatek of Pro-Galgo is really pleased that the Jerez galgos the association saved have now been spayed/castrated, apart from one old girl. A team of German & Bulgarian vets visited the area and perform neutering operations on over 500 local animals – think how many unwanted litters of dogs and cats that will have saved. You can read about it here.

  • Spain v Holland – galgos in Sofia El Refugio Escuela discuss!

Anja-galgos- Sofia El Refugio Escuela 07 2010 250 The galgos in Sofia El Refugio Escuela in Seville are discussing Spain v Holland on Sunday, and which team they should support. I print below the conversation as it was sent to me.

‘Spain claim their first title after beating Germany 1-0 and our galgos already know.
Well, first of all, congratulations Spain! But the World Cup Final is Spain vs Holland and our galgos have the dilemma which national team they have to support!: “Guys, let’s see, and now? Red or Orange?”

Thousands already living in the Netherlands for years: ” Orange, of course! I don’t come back!”
Those who have just arrived in Holland and even bark in spanish: “Pfff… I want to put down roots here, but my heart is still red…”

  • Holland v Spain, World Cup – All galgos and podencos to wear orange!

Ellie Galgo Love Foundation Holland 210 I’ve just received this message which I share with you.

Sunday is the World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands. So on this occasion I am putting out a call to everyone. I am a Dutch owner of dogs from Spain. I call on all galgo and podenco owners to put orange on their dog’s collar, as an act o protest and an indictment of the treatment of dogs in Spain.

Thanks on behalf of all Spanish dogs.

Kind regards, Joke Brussen, volunteer for www.greytcreations.nl, and www.podencoworld.nl galgolovefoundation.nl
    Please spread the word!!!

  • Galga stolen from her garden in Madrid! Reward offered

Kala stolen galga Madrid 07 2010 Charl 250 STOLEN FROM HER GARDEN IN MADRID!

Kala was stolen from her owner’s garden. She has a heart problem The family is understandably distraught and offering a reward of 2,500 euros to anyone finding the dog and returning her. One dreads to think what will happen if she is in the hands of a gitano of galguero.

    Contact Bea on alprau@gmail.com

In my book I explain that there is a ‘traffic’ in stealing companion galgos. The thieves know how distraught an owner will be, and may be prepared to go to any lengths to get the dog back. If you haven’t already ordered a copy of my book, do so now and learn more.

  • The Plight of the Galgo – Spain must act to stop this!

Linda galga puppies Mairena 06 207 2010 300 Some months ago, a lot of photos of galgos in Mairena were circulating on the Internet, including Galgo News. The information I had been given was that this was a killing station. It has since come to light that Mairena is in fact a perrera, ‘Protectora de Animales Y Plantas de Sevilla, which has contracts with city councils of cities and villages in the area, to retrieve abandoned dogs from the streets. Hunters also take their dogs there when hunting has finished.

This galga (who has been named Linda) gave birth to 10 puppies a couple of days ago, and all of them have been taken to Mairena. What sick person can do this. Look at the conditions in which she lies exhausted.
