I have not updated on the situation for the dogs locked in a metal container in baking sunshine in Murcia because the ACTIN legal team asked for a blanket on the publicity. This ban has now been lifted and I can tell you that the ACTIN lawyers have been pushing through their case with the court. The legal team need paying, please Paypal donatons@actin-spain.com to donate to their fees…they do not charge for expenses etc.

Viv Wharton and the ACTIN team do incredible work in the Cartagena area of Murcia where animal cruelty among the Spanish is rife. At the moment they are working to close down a municipal dog pound and need all the support they can get, especially to pay their legal and vet fees for the dogs they take out, some of whom are extremely sick. Read about it here and donate to show your support for the incredible work they do. They are setting a precedent in Spain.
A story about two hunting dogs – not galgos or podencos – but typical of the actions of many a Spanish galguero now the hunting season has finished. If anyone can help ACTIN, please contact them direct.

Animal Welfare Support Murcia does a wonderful job in helping all types of dogs, puppies, pedigrees, puppies, xbreeds…they don’t discriminate. At the same time, they are working hard to save some dogs in a hellish situation and desperately need somewhere for the dogs to go, so that they can denounce the owner for cruelty, neglect and anything else they can throw at him. I know these dogs aren’t galgos, but I ask and ask for people to make a denuncia in cruelty cases. So please, share this appeal and contact any friends you have who could foster any of these dogs, or donate to them going into kennels.
We all know that most galgueros, especially in rural areas, will stop at nothing to dispose of their dogs, especially at the end of hunting. Galgos del Sol and Tina Solera have just taken in two young galgas, Tina tells the story.
‘We help alot of galgueros in this area…… I am so bloody disapointed with this, I can’t tell you. We have spoken with some galgueros and they believe for sure these two young galgas were stolen and the thieves did not want them to get back home. That is why galgueros build BUNKERS to prevent theft. Pistolero was stolen from a galguero here in our village two years ago… he was also found over 4 hrs away down in a deep well. These two young galgas were thrown in a well 30 meters deep and pulled out approx a couple of days ago by firemen.
This galga mom was found in the street, in Malaga province, with newborn pups. An appeal was launched for transport to take the family to Murcia where Galgos del Sol have offered them shelter. Thank you Tina and the team at GdS.
