I just signed a petition about Greyhounds which were found shot in the head and dumped in a quarry last year. The case is finally due to be heard on April 25-26 this year.
It’s urgent that people sign this petition. There are just a few days left for it and they don’t have a lot of signatures. Please sign now.

  • Cuenca Refuge – saved from becoming a perrera again!

The licence has gone to Rescani Belgium which work together with people from Madrid. So it stays a shelter.

  • Levriers sans Frontieres meet an Angel and a Devil – and save some galgos and podencosa

Odile Brochot, president of Lévriers sans frontières, and 6 French volunteers just returned from a rescue trip to Spain. They went to a perrera to save some dogs from certain death there, took their rescued dogs back to Fondation Benjamin Mehnert, went to a galguero hideaway, saved some dogs there and then went to Scooby Medina where they also took some dogs to be taken back to France to be adopted out.

At the perrera, they saw an angel and met the devil.

  • Wild Time Radio, Spain – ACTIN highlights the animal cruelty problem

Vivienne Wharton of ACTIN was recently interviewed for Wild Time Radio and you can listen to it here. The interviewer is not the best in the world (I’m an ex BBC radio presenter and I can tell you he wouldn’t last long there!) But Vivienne does manage to get over a lot of important points to draw attention to the terrible dog abandonment in Murcia and animal cruelty in general.

  • Avaaz Petition for the Galgos – 50,000 signatures reached – update.

Great news about the Avaaz petition. Here’s what Danielle says. ‘My petition reached 50,000 and I sent it today to the Spain Prime minister, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, The Real Sociedad Canina, 2 Spanish TV channels, 2 Spanish national newspapers, and the permanent representation of Spain to the EU.’ Danielle will let us know if she gets any response.

  • Spain’s stray dogs used in pet food!

I’m now back from the UK – funeral and house clearance – never a nice job. So now trying to catch up on the news.

Here’s a story which will shock you. Please publicise widely.

  • 4th April 2013 – Happy Belated Birthday DutchGalgoLobby

Apologies that this news is a little late. I’m currently in the UK for a funeral and flat clearing and have restricted access to a computer.

Happy 2nd Birthday DutchGalgoLobby on 4th April 2013

On April 4th, DutchGalgoLobby celebrates her 2nd birthday. In her relatively short existence, DutchGalgoLobby has achieved quite a lot. Dutch Politics are now well aware of the Galgo mistreatment in Spain and one of the parties even set up a resolution to ask the Dutch government to take action. Regretfully this resolution did not get enough votes to pass because they still think it is an internal Spanish problem, to be solved by Spain. (Subsidiarity principle)

Therefore we approached the European Parliament which is in progress but takes time. European parliament is rather sluggish!
