Sandy of Galgos Rescue Almeria reports they received a call from a hunter that he had a galgo he was getting rid of, if they’d like to go and get him.  Here’s the story of Rayo and his rescue.

  • Safe now – galgo puppy hung and thrown into the river at Castille y Leon, Spain

Safe now – galgo puppy hung and thrown into the river at Castille y Leon, Spain

LINO, baby who was tried to kill with a rope and thrown into the river.  She is now safe with Galgos De León
We talk about systemic cruelty and impunity.
The exclusion of hunting dogs from the Animal Protection Act in Spain has, in fact, armored the abusers, leaving the Galgueros with an unfair legal shield. Knowing themselves protected by the law, many continue to treat these noble animals as mere disposable tools, condemning them to a destiny of torture, abandonment or death, while protectors fight alone to save lives like this little warrior who is now fighting to recover at the veterinary hospital.

  • Results of the CMA investigation into UK vet fees

This https://www.msn.com/en-gb/health/other/vets-could-be-made-to-cap-prescription-prices-after-uk-watchdog-investigation/ar-AA1OuEG0?ocid=UE01DHP&pc=UE01&cvid=68ef8de2ba024086bb93f96e9b3d65ee&ei=27&fbclid=IwY2xjawNi8F9leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHnOoo6DQtItvm1-4eyNZT0SR7Au0fSs27fprqBhT1ywTka3VNzo9YE6GCw1h_aem_tJIvZ_X4mIuXvEmRJSu_uQweblink will take you to the results of the CMA investigation into the exhorbitant charges most UK vets require for their services.  The high charges have resulted in a large number of pet owners either self medicating their pets or giving up their pets, because speculative companies have bought out vet businesses.  Having said that, the vets are at fault too – I feel – because they have put their profits before the care of animals in need.

  • San Javier, Murcia – galgo puppies abandoned….

    From Plataforma NAC
The abandonment of puppies; innocent victims of a cycle of exploitation and oblivion.
Galguero was giving them away to hunters at 4 weeks old. Time to save these four terrified little ones. How will that poor mother be?
Abandonment is an act of cruelty, and in the world of greyhounds and hunting dogs, it knows no compassion. Those no longer suitable for hunting or racing are discarded, but the tragedy becomes even deeper and heartbreaking when discardment falls on the most defenseless beings: puppies.  All 4 safe at Galgos del Sol

  • URGENT ACTION needed from SPANISH RESCUE ASSOCIATIONS

    From Plataforma NAC

URGENT: MAXIMUM DISTRIBUTION   –  MANIFESTING SAME DOGS SAME RIGHTS – Stick with your organization!.
As you will know, they want to exclude hunting and working dogs from the royal decree of zoos nucleus their last hope of being protected. These dogs would be even more unprotected in a royal decree issued from agriculture that would only require registration, identification and a little more. Reporting the poor condition of the handrail would be even harder.

  • 12 October – the beginning of the Spanish hunting year

October 12, marks the beginning of the hunting season and with it, the terrible countdown for thousands of greyhounds and hunting dogs in Spain. Once again, these noble animals, used and exploited, face an uncertain fate: abandonment, mistreatment, or death when they cease to be useful for hunting.  The cycle of abuse is repeating. Countless innocent lives are already sentenced.  Behind every specimen of breeding, there is a potential discard.  Enough with the abuse and systematic neglect.
It is urgent and necessary to put an end to uncontrolled breeding and the cruel discardment of greyhounds and hunting dogs.  They deserve respect, love and an existence free of suffering, not mere tools to use and throw away.

  • Please donate to vet fees to help galgo puppy Marino

    From Sandy Galgoslover

It seems like only yesterday that little Marino, weak and fighting for his life, escaped with a vengeance. No one knew if he would make it—but this brave soul refused to give up. Today, filled with pride, Marino is taking a new step in his young life: his first vet visit.
Today he’s receiving his first vaccinations, a microchip, and his European passport—symbols of a future that was almost stolen from him. Since his rescue, he’s grown into a strong, cheerful puppy weighing 11.20 kg (24 lbs), with eyes full of hope and a heart that finally dares to dream.

  • PACMA, SEPRONA & UCOMA – meet to discuss helping Spanish hunting dogs

On October 2nd, we held a very important meeting in Madrid with SEPRONA (National Service of the Environment) and the Central Operational Unit for the Environment (UCOMA) of the Civil Guard. I was accompanied by Eva Ramos, legal advisor for PACMA, and our objective was clear: to demand more resources, more inspections, and a greater commitment to protecting hunting dogs.

We met with Major General Carlos Sarrión, head of SEPRONA, and several representatives from UCOMA to address a reality we can no longer ignore: the neglected situation faced by thousands of dogs used for hunting in Spain. (more…)

  • 2 young galgos at Galgo Rescue Almeria, looking forward to finding forever homes

    From Sandygalgoslover

Introducing Lotus (3 years old) and Roquita (2 years old). In collaboration with Friends of Mazarrón Animals, these two sweethearts were finally freed from their previous owners.  For both of them, this marks the beginning of a new future, where they can gradually experience what safety, love, and trust truly mean.

Lotus still bears the marks of his past: his body shows both old and recent scars. Yet, we’re already seeing the first signs of recovery. With the right care, rest, and patience, he’ll have every opportunity to regain both physical and emotional balance.
