I mentioned that our new foster dog Nera came from Galgos del Sur. This is one of the older established rescue associations in Cordoba.

In June we said farewell to our blind Podenco Bo, which meant we had space for another dog, a companion for Podenca Rosie. This time we decided to foster an older dog..
Project Galgo is an association in east England formed in 2020 which brings podencos and galgos to the UK for foster and adoption. They work with 3 Spanish associations, Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert, Galgos del Sur and Galgo Rescue Almeria.After a home check, we were accepted and advised that galga Nera would be coming to us from Galgos del Sur. She travelled by road with another half dozen galgos and a couple of podencos. It’s a long journey….

From Asociacion Del Sur in CordobaWe don’t stop. We are desperate. The galgueros don’t stop dumping and abandoning dogs destined for hunting. This galgo was abandoned in a village of Jaén. They’ve been behind her for 5 days to rescue her. He could have starved to death or a heat stroke, it’s coming very badly. She is now safe at our shelter.

This week is National Greyhound Week
Racing with greyhounds is NOT a sport, too many are injured, die or are exported to Asia where they have a hellish rest-of-life and end up in a dog meat slaughterhouse. UK and Irish greyhounds suffer, as well as the galgos.
