• Bad News for the surviving ‘Trafic Galgos’ of Cordoba?

Trafic GalgosLast November we were all delighted with the news that nearly 200 galgos had been siezed by SEPRONA police who were trying to stop a ‘trade’ in galgos. The dogs were moved to a compound and the case proceeded through the legal system. As the months have gone by, word has come out of Spain that all was not well with these galgos. Some became ill, some died…………….and the last word was that the judge sitting in the case finally decided that, as the galgos were originally stolen, those which survived should be returned to their original owners! On my visit to Cordoba at the beginning of June, there remained only 2 galgos which were available for adoption.

This is the story of what has happened to the galgos, known as the ‘trafic galgos’, as explained to a member of a French rescue association by the owner of one of the refuges where some of the remaining galgos were taken after being removed from the original compound.

He is suffering a slow and painful death from starvation.

There must be someone in the area who can catch this poor dog and find a space for him in a shelter. If you can help, contact helenamalia89@gmail.com // helenyeu@hotmail.com or

  • Greyhounds In Nood Belgium – on a mercy mission to Madrid

Over a period of 7 days at the beginning of June, a team from Greyhounds In Nood, Belgium, travelled overland with a van load of goods through France to Spain and Madrid, to visit refuges in the area with hundreds of galgos. This is the story of their trip, fascinating and moving.

At one refuge, they were introduced to a 6-week old galga puppy which had been dumped in a rubbish bin, covered in vermin. At another refuge, there were more than 300 galgos.

This story makes the proposed introduction in Belgium in October of a law prohibiting the importing of dogs from outside that country even more appalling.

International Threats to Greyhounds, Letters Needed!

    Dear Friends:

We have just learned that efforts to open dog tracks in the South Pacific and in the Caribbean are underway.

Please send your letters of concern to officials on behalf of the greyhounds. Thousands of dogs will be doomed to injury and death if racetracks are legalized in these new jurisdictions.

    The Philippines

In the Philippines, House Bill No. 5291—An Act Granting the Fox Millenium Amusement Club a Franchise to Construct, Operate and Maintain a Greyhound Racetrack—would make dog racing legal in the city of Mandaue. This dangerous measure has already been approved by a legislative conference committee.
