  • Amigos de los Galgos – help them, buy a dog collar, adopt a galgo or podenco

    Pedro Munoz galgos 1 300Amigos de Los Galgos is urgently appealling for funds, adopters for their dogs, and/or dog food.

    But also medications, bedding, dog coats, or would you purchase one of their beautiful dog collars – every dollar, cent, pound helps.

    This is their appeal! URGENT,the refuges are full. We have need of you!

    If you could help us with a donation – 2..,4..,10 or 20 euros or buy one of our dog collars, or collect bedding, dog food, medication – anything you have, just contact us by email.

    The dogs which are offered for adoption on our website are already in refuges or foster homes, and so we know a little of their characters.

    Some suffered physical abuse, others are marked psychologicaly. They have never known a hygenic environment, or correct feeding.

  • Perrikus Refuge, Madrid – saving Galgos and abandoned dogs – Help, Adopt a Spanish dog

    Galgos Rescue 2009 075 donations 300In March 2009 I travelled with L’Europe des Levriers into Spain to bring out a dozen or so galgos and a couple of podencos for fostering and adoption in France.

    One of the Spanish refuges which L’Europe des Levriers regularly use is Perrikus, and their volunteer Cristina da Luna.

    Before my trip I had appealed on a couple of Franglais forums for donations of bedding, dog food, animal medicines, anything which the refuges could use, as they survive – struggle to survive is more like it – on donations.

    I had the most amazing response and took a Volvo estate car full to bursting with goods for the refuge.

  • Baas Galgo announce an Art Auction in aid of Galgos in Spain

    Art Auction Baas Galgo 250Sandra Baas of Baas Galgo announces ‘Dutch artist Mieke van Erp has organised a Art-aution for the benefit of galgos in Spain.

    The Art-auction will last two weeks. Bidding can be done by e-mail, only at this address: mvanerpgrey@onsbrabantnet.nl. Please make clear for which object your bidding is, by mentioning the number of the object.

    Every evening after 18.00 (local time) the name of the highest bidder and the bidding will be put on the site, next to each object. The time your mail arrives counts.

    As soon as the biddings of that day are mentioned on the site, there is a new opportunity to put in a higher bid. The auction starts at the 3rd of May and ends at the 17th of May, 18.00 hours sharp (local time)

  • Help Save Her Leg, Sickening Injury to Galga in Linares, Donate to Vets Fees

    This galga is called MARIFLOR and was found in this pitiful condition in Linares.

    The veterinarian has tried to save her leg, now he has fingers and legs crossed in the hope that it does not get infected.

    If the wound does get infected, there will be no option but to amputate the leg.

    PRO-GALGO association are arranging the foster of the galga away from Linares during her recovery as the galgos in Linares always get stolen. They are appealing for donations towards her veterinary care.

    The growing numbers of abandoned and free-roaming pets (especially dogs and cats) have become a problem in some European states. More and more we are confronted with horrific news about and pictures of animals that have been poisoned or otherwise killed and animals who have been subjected to terrible abuse.

  • Hundreds of skeletons – proof they hang galgos in Villatobas, Toledo

    Villatobas, near Toledo, could be renamed ‘The Killing Fields’ as it is where galgos have been ‘traditionally’ hung from trees to die. Just an excuse for the sadistic galguerros and gypsies to satisfy their sadistic natures. But it is about the stray dogs of Spain, and a municipal dog compound (pererra) – this particular one is in Seville but it could just as easily be in Cordoba, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia. It’s where dogs, mainly, are taken to be put down. The usual method of euthenasia, the cheapest of course at 35 euros per dog, paralyses the dog and it suffers for 20 whole long minutes before its life ends.

  • Lanzarote – behind the scenes SARA’s work is never-ending

    SARA Tigre bardino puppy 250News from the SARA shelter on Lanzarote – just arranged an adoption of two podenco puppies, brother and sister, and then they get two boxes of puppies delivered a week ago.

    One is a litter of 10 bardinos and the other a litter of seven podenco/bardino cross.

    Lynne writes, ‘A Cach. is short for Cachorro which is Spanish for puppy. We give all the dogs in a litter the same name so they are Cachorro Dustbin or Cachorro Red Car – stupid names but it means we can remember where they were found or, in the case of red car, the person who dumped them.

  • Guam Greyhounds looking for homes in the USA

    I’ve previously carried the story of the plight of the greyhounds on the island paradise of Guam when the racetrack closed down. They were just abandoned to starve to death, be killed on the road………………

    After veterinary care, six of them have now arrived at Chagrin Falls in Ohio – a journey of over 7,000 miles – in the care of Greyhound Adoption of Ohio.
