Update on the galgos from Jerez, saved from death row by Pro-Galgo

Mo Swatek, president and founder of the association, says a very grateful thanks to GRIN who sent 1,000 euros to get the dogs out of Jerez. She is now appealing for help to raise at least 1,000 euros more to pay for vet care and testing for diseases. Donations can be made by Paypal through their website.

She has also sent an email regarding the injured starving galga reported below, offering to pay for transport to her vet and vet care, but so far, no reply.

It’s the end of January, and galgos are already being abandoned in their hundreds. The situation doesn’t seem to improve atall. Why do the Spanish authorities disregard what is happening? And are we contributing to it by bringing the dogs out of Spain? The hunters now take their galgos to the doors of the refuges and leave them. Are these galguerros just expecting to get rid of their dogs every year by expecting the rest of the world to take them?

Here’s another galga, wandering the streets of Seville with a broken foreleg, pitifully thin. The refuges are full to bursting, but can anyone please take her.

Appeal just in from Scooby Medina

Another rescue in Sevilla – 120 dogs to arrive at Scooby in the next few days

Back in November 2007, Scooby received news that there were 200 dogs in need in a small town in Sevilla, called El Cuervo. You can read about this rescue mission on our news page under November 2007 – “200 dogs found in awful situation in El Cuervo, Sevilla”.

Fast forward to December 2008. We heard that Antonio had been forced to shut down his “shelter”, so we have been waiting for the green light to go and rescue these animals.
