Please can anyone help this galgo who is wandering the streets,entered a bar and got thrown sticks at, only for a guy to chase hm out trying to offer him popcorn. I’ve just received information from Maureen Sheridan at The Animal House in Jamaica that the plans to introduce greyhound racing in Jamaica are moving forward. She’s appealing for as many people as possible to send a protest letter to send to the Prime Minister and the Editor of the Jamaica Observer, which recently carried an anti-greyhound racing article.
There are 2 draft letters here, which can also be used for emails. Please keep your correspondence polite and include your name and address.

Update on the galgos from Jerez, saved from death row by Pro-Galgo
Mo Swatek, president and founder of the association, says a very grateful thanks to GRIN who sent 1,000 euros to get the dogs out of Jerez. She is now appealing for help to raise at least 1,000 euros more to pay for vet care and testing for diseases. Donations can be made by Paypal through their website.
She has also sent an email regarding the injured starving galga reported below, offering to pay for transport to her vet and vet care, but so far, no reply.
It’s the end of January, and galgos are already being abandoned in their hundreds. The situation doesn’t seem to improve atall. Why do the Spanish authorities disregard what is happening? And are we contributing to it by bringing the dogs out of Spain? The hunters now take their galgos to the doors of the refuges and leave them. Are these galguerros just expecting to get rid of their dogs every year by expecting the rest of the world to take them?
Here’s another galga, wandering the streets of Seville with a broken foreleg, pitifully thin. The refuges are full to bursting, but can anyone please take her.

30/01/09 Update on Karmel, my galga Espagnol, who has been suffering from a terrible genetic disease for nearly a year now.
We have been backwards and forwards to the vet. Karmel had been doing very well on Megasolene, 3/4 pill morning and evening. We then introduced Imurel, which is the human treatment for this disease, which does not have any side effects. Unfortunately, after a week, the disease started to break out on Karmel’s face again. We therefore had to increase the dose of megasolene to control this.
On Wednesday Karmel’s breathing rose to 19 per minute, not exhorbitantly high, but also noisy. Straight off to the vet again. Blood test and X-ray.
