  • Chained through the mouth to a wall and left to die

podencoThis is a podenco, found chained through its mouth and round its head to a wall, left to die.

It was found in the town of Higuera de la Serena.

An angel named Olga rescued it, with a lot of help from the ayuntanimiento (town hall). It took from dawn till dusk to free him, he was so terrified and the chain was so thick.

podencoHe is now being cared for in her home; her husband cannot get near him, he is so terrified of men.

What must this poor dog have suffered. What sick human inflicted this upon him.

Olga asks if you would email the town hall hserena@dip-badajoz.es and congratulate them on rescuing this dog. with her. Here is the message to copy and paste.

  • Passionate about Galgos – with Passion Levriers

    Virginie Labat
Virginie Labat lives in Bayonne on the French/Spanish border, and speaks Spanish as well as her native French. It makes her ideal for working to help the galgos. She explains why she got involved:

‘A couple of years ago, I saw on TV a programme about the Spanish galgos. It showed the conditions in which they were kept by the galgueros and also the horrendous mutilations and death inflicted on them.

At that time I didn’t have a computer, so I couldn’t check the story on any websites, but then, in December 2006, my brother gave me his computer, and I was able to read about the galgos.

And I could not believe that this went on just a 30 minute drive from my home!

  • Noche needs her forever home

    Noche
Remember the story of Noche, rescued by Degalgos. She was in horrendously poor condition, malnourished, with scabies all over her body, and had been attacked by rats.

Here she is, healed, looking absolutely stunning, and ready for adoption.

Contact Degalgos to offer her a forever home.

  • URGENT! Save us from the Galguerro!

I’ve appealed for help for these 2 dogs, but now a galguerro has found out they are healthy and wants to take them! It’s highly likely he will try and steal them.

They urgently need to be removed from Spain – can you help?

This is the message about them sent to me today.

  • A Passion for Giving to Galgos

Passion levriersThis is a tale about Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf, le Petit Chaperon Rouge.

Virginie Labat, of Passion Levriers tells the tale:

Little red riding hood is Passion Levriers, the wolf is the galguerro in Spain, this story represents what we do to help the refugees there in Spain. We collect everywhere in France: blankets, medicine, toys for cats and dogs, kennels, food, in fact everything you can use in a refuge for the ‘peludos’ (means in English : the one with hairs).

  • Summer, sunshine, holidays……..

BUT don’t let’s forget the galgos still waiting in the refuges to be rehomed outside Spain.

DON’T forget the volunteers who still go to the refuges every day to take care of the galgos, and all the other abandoned dogs of Spain. They are such dedicated people, often paying for food and medication from their own pockets.

    YOU can still do something.

  • Women in Trouble while the Spanish sun is shining

Galgo NewsWhilst the Spanish sun is shining, the problems for the galgos do not go away. Since the end of hunting in Spain in January, thousands of galgos have been killed, suffered torture, been maimed, abandoned, some are still suffering, starved in remote shelters, hidden in dark barns, bitches giving birth when they haven’t even the bodily strength to provide enough nourishment for themselves, let along half a dozen demanding puppies.

Some are lucky enough to have been rescued by volunteers and taken to already overflowing refuges.

But the galgos are not the only ones to suffer. The volunteers suffer too, picked on and targeted by their own countrymen.
