I speak English and French, but for Spanish, German, Italian etc, I rely on Internet translations. English is the International language and many of the people who email with information about the horrors of Spain do so in English. Sometimes things get lost in translation. But I applaud these people for contacting me.
I have now been sent the following information on the Olivenza Perrera, in the Badajoz area, which is particularly bad for ALL dogs. It is run by a woman, the dogs in there are not fed before they are euthanaised after perhaps 15 or 20 days…………. there is an association which works tirelessly to save some of them and rehome them away from Spain.
I have been sent this link about the perrera.

It is so good to see people taking action against this place. I recently adopted a basset hound that had come from there. Although, I didn’t see the place myself, the vet told me some of what goes on there and I was appalled! What is unbelievable is that when reports are made to the authorities they tell the dog shelter when they are coming for an inspection which, of course gives them time to clean things up. Shocking! Our dog has a happy ending because he’s now in a loving family. I would urge other people to forget expensive puppies from pet shops and do a great thing by adopting a dog and possibly saving it’s life.
Keep up the good work.

Bonjour
How marvellous that you adopted a dog from
Olivenza. Unfortunately it is virtually impossible to get in there, unless
youre an abandoned dog, for people to check what is going on. And your
comment about inspections is interesting and true, the refuges and perreras who
dont maintain a decent standard of hygiene and care get chance to clean up
their act before they are inspected! Stupid!
And the continuing breeding of pedigree dogs for
showing is something I am very anti. Breeders claim to be responsible
people. Ha! All they do is add to the unwanted dog problem simply to make
money and further their own reputations. If they were responsible
people, theyd stop breeding dogs and cats!
Thanks for reading GN and commenting. And
hats off to you for saving a dog from Olivenza.
