Sad news today. Tina, who rescued the beautiful galga which she took home, hoping to adopt, has had to take the galga back to the refuge. Sadly, the dog was afraid of children. This is what Tina says.
‘Well we went to the refuge. Straight away she starting fighting against going in, as she was terrified. I felt sick. I realize now that I crossed a line. I took her from the roads, she had to stay overnight at my home as it was late, and I got attached and couldn’t leave her there. Had I left her at the refuge the first time she might have got used to it by now.
I think this last month has got on top of me, I’m seeing abandoned galgos everywhere, another one today and it is just so upsetting all the time. The son of the refuge owner thinks I should take some time out as I am so upset. It’s people like us who take the responsibility of the hunters abandoning their dogs, and we get so upset.
I feel so bad it didn’t work out, I couldn’t possible feel worse, so now it’s all hands on deck to find her a good home without children. She needs a quiet life with another dog as a companion and a retired owner. I going to find her that’.
As I have keep saying, those of us who do not live with the effects of the hunters lack of care cannot possibly imagine what the volunteers go through.
Good news about two of the dogs Tina help, Azbache and Brunita are now ready to fly to new homes in Switzerland. But Tina needs help with this galga and another one I have featured, Sandy.

Just to add Guapita the galga was perfectly behaved with my other galgo. She hardly barked and didnt chew everything in sight. She loved walking and didnt pull at all on the lead she really would have been the perfect greyhound if she wasnt afraid of the children. She would suit an older couple, yes shes a big dog but walks perfectly on the lead as I said and loves to sleep. I am wondering today if I just needed more time but last night she hurt herself in a panic because my son had moved to go to the toilet. It got too much of a worry. I hope so much she finds her forever home and lives in peace for the rest of her days.
Tina dont get to upset you did your best and I’m sure she will find a home. People are so cruel remember Lurcher that the farmer had down the road from the refuge its people like him that we must stop from owning any animals, but we need you at the refuge be strong Linda

Hi Linda
Tina agreed to me printing her feelings of
frustration and emotion to try and help people who do not live with the horror
of abandonment and cruelty to Spain s dogs every year, especially the pressure
of the abandoned galgos. Im sure all GN readers will agree with your
encouragement to her. At the end of the day, its only because of amazing
people like all of you, who work in refuges, foster dogs, rehome them, that the
dogs do not die of starvation or get killed on the roads.
Keep up the good work, all of you.
And thanks for reading GN and

Thank You. I have not stopped thinking about her. Ana and I have put her info on many of the sites and just waiting for Barbera to put her on the german web page hoping she will get out of here and go to a good home there. I keep thinking maybe if i gave it more time it could have worked, on the other hand if she could just hold out in the refuge we can find her a more suitable place without kids running around and screaming, I think this would be better for her in the long run. My Guapo is unusual for a greyhound as he is the ring leader of the chaos and knows how to manipulate a situation so the kids get told off and hes left all inncocent, hes a cheeky thing but loves the kids to bits, he fits our family like a glove. I genuinly felt the kids were too stressful for her. Doesnt stop me feeling terrible tho. I am determined to get her a good home. Going to the refuge tomorrow with some chopped up sausage to sneak to her! Thanks for your support!

All feeling it for you, Tina. You know you have the support of hundreds of readers on GN, keeping their fingers crossed that the galga gets the home she deserves.
As you have illustrated, the dog has to be matched to the home. It could be that, in her past, she has been abused by children – children of galgueros and gitanos do not respect a galgo, they copy their parents.
You should not feel bad, you tried, and somewhere we all pray there is a forever home for her.
Bless you for caring for the galgos so much.

Thanks, Ive been in touch with some organisations that deal with the rehoming of galgos as companion dogs all over europe and have had a response from one of them today saying she really is beautiful and they are going to get back to me ASAP. So fingers crossed. Im leaving to see her now…….. mustnt forget the sausages!
Guapita was a bit happier in the refuge yesterday but still anxious, she needs time.
Thanks for everyones support. Im still plugging away with finding her a new home. One of the german volunteers is absolutley positive she can rehome her in Germany. Fingers crossed.
Hi Tina
We all feel for you. She is such a beautiful galga; they are all lovely but she is especially pretty. Were trying our best on Galgo News. Fingers crossed for all of you.
