The motto of this book is:
“Please let us all unite in a civilized Europe
that will treat animals with the respect they deserve.
Galgos are very sensitive and noble creatures
that should not be treated in this horrible way.
Wake up Spain,
wake up from these barbarous Middle Ages!”
In ‘Mooie bange ogen’ Elisabeth Janssen describes how she came to adopt her first galgo. She also tells about the life she and her partner after their love for the galgo blossomed, how their lives developed, for better and for worse. Attention is paid to the European point of view on the well-being of animals and to the situation of the galgo in Spain. But above all it touchingly describes the sensitive character of these noble hounds.
“In the meantime a fawn-coloured bitch had drawn my attention. She rested peacefully in a basket, together with a brindle dog, and approached no-one. She didn’t look at you either, she made it clear that she had rather not attract any attention at all. If no-one noticed her, no-one could hurt her”.
NB Please note the book is currently only available in Dutch.
