Toledo – hell for galgos. Sandra Baas of Baas Galgo reports on the latest examples of galguero cruelty.
‘Last weekend (weekend before Xmas) our Baasgalgo rescue team found a massive galgo graveyard. They have been digging all day and finally found 8 murdered galgos.
I cannot give you any more information since the case is now denounced.
When Leticia came back and looked on our facebook page, she saw there was a girl called Selene asking for help…a galga was thrown into a gully around 800 meters deep.
(Look carefully, you’ll see a spot of white at the bottom of the gully – that’s the galga!) Leticia, who is a military police woman, and the leader of the Baasgalgo Rescue Team used to work at that zone and knows it very well immediately stepped into the car and drove to the gully. It was late in the afternoon and all though the fireman and the rescue team tried everything possible unfortunately she could not be rescued.
This morning at 6.30 Leticia, Miriam and Jorge went again, the route was cartload for danger still they went down with danger for their own life!
More than 45 minutes were necessary to come back up and with no happy end.
Two people of the rescue team stayed at the gully in the hope to see the galga again and when Leticia came home to walk her own dogs a phone call with good news, the galga had shown up and the fireman where on their way again.
Thanks to all the efforts of the Baasgalgo Rescue team and the fireman the little girl now called Candy-Raspa is safe!!
The galga has been at least a week in the gully, thrown in there after hunting last weekend. The veterinary told us that she is dehydrated, her kidneys are affected and she has a high sugar level. We will have to wait to see if she makes a full recovery.
She is at home with Leticia and Jorge now, in an electric blanket and a soft bed.
She has been drinking a lot of water and she has eaten.
BaasGalgo is a group of volunteers that works for the galgos in Spain.
The rescue team is out as often as they can and their cars do not run on water, the veterinary cares of the rescued galgos are very high and we do not get any government help. Please help us to continue our work even the smallest amount is more than welcome to pay for all the expenses.
Become a member for less than 6 euros a month or sponsor a galgo for 10 euros a month.
