Malaga perrera galgos – 3 saved but dozens still rot in perreras elsewhere

Galga Malaga perrera 1 2012Barbara LeFranc, president of le Bulletin des Levriers in France, has been working with Galgos en Familia in Malaga to rescue the latest batch of galgos in the Malaga perrera El Paraiso. Their story is published here on Galgo News and on the BDL website, (English translation below).

‘Spain is yet again being transformed into a gigantic slaughterhouse, Galgos die while you are eating your breakfast. … hundreds of Galgos often without having had the slightest chance of escape, because the cries for help coming from all sides, because all the foreign associations and refuges are full to bursting already to be able to respond to these heart-wrenching appeals, because we know we can not save them all …

The macabre scenario is repeating itself in Malaga, a call at the beginning of January and no one to answer, 5 Galgos are held at the local perrera, a volunteer is launching an email appeal to save them, they are very young, lost, the pleading look in their eyes…..but she received no response to her SOS, the days go by and every time she goes to see them, they seem more desperate, depressed, frightened and weakened physically. It’s normal because they are not fed, the dog pound does not make this effort because they will be killed, it’s always the same story …

One morning the volunteer arrived, two of the 5 have gone – they have “disappeared”, sent to a better world, (killed) sickening! There remain three, you must save them, they cannot die too …

The call came to us last night, which helped us to make the decision to take over to save them – there is a possibility of moving them to a kennel, it is expensive, it’s true, but sometimes a time arrives when we say that their lives are priceless and that the revulsion we feel at their distressful situation is so great that we cannot move on and do nothing.

They will be removed from the pound now. The brindle male is only 1 year old, the cream galga just two years old, the female brindle is only 2 years old too.

12/01/2012 News of our three darlings rescued from the Malaga perrera last week. They have been named and, as usual, these are names “K”, they were given Kiara, Kaspar and Karita.

All three are healthy Kiara (pictured) has had to have part of her tail amputated because it was in very poor condition. So as she had to be anesthetized, the decision was made to sterilize her at the same time to avoid having to put her to sleep twice in a short space of time. Karita’s tail (the female cream) is also injured, we hope, however, still to be able to saveit and not have to amputate.

Kaspar, the only male (brindle clear) is fine too, it is more reserved than her companions, but confidence is beginning to settle down with her handlers. We take good care of them with good food and hugs, the first in their lives.

A large package of 10 kilos should soon reach them, it contains beds, coats, collars, leashes and blankets to make them as comfortable as possible.

Thank you to Corine, who is the first sponsor of our protected Malaga. You can help by joining our virtual adoption programme and sponsor one of them.’

It’s going to cost 190 euros/month to keep the dogs in the kennels till they can be found foster and adoption homes. On top of that are vet fees for microchip, vaccination etc. Plus BdL has 5 more galgos & podencos in a kennels in Seville. Donations by Paypal to dxwalk@voila.fr ref: Malaga Galgos

dont always have time to do follow ups. So thank you for your news too.
And thank you for your support for the galgos and podencos, every little
    helps.
