Huesca Perrera – 30 dogs on death row

Huesca Perrera in Northern spain doesn’t often get a mention; they don’t tend to get galgos, but they do get podencos, English Setters, labradors, German Pointers…..they are full to overflowing and their vet Jose has appealed for help for adoptions. Otherwise he has no choice but to put 30 dogs on death row. You can read about it on Podenco Post.

Welcome to the plight of the galgos, Sue. If you put ‘letterwriting campaign’ or ‘write to your’…into the search box on GN home page, you should find my latest campaigns. There is one at the moment to the new Spanish government and the provincial governments. You will also find pages with links to find your MEP.
I recommend you to buy a copy of my book too, as it will explain the situation for the galgos and why it is so difficult to resolve.
Please also look at Podenco Post, my other blog which tells you about these fabulous hounds, quite different from galgos, yet who suffer horrendously too in the hands of the Spanish hunters and Spanish gypsies.

Sue, it is relatively easy now to adopt a dog (many breeds as well as galgos and podencos) from some of the spanish rescue orgs into the UK, though transport can be costly depending where you live. Beryl provides links to quite a number of rescue organisations who would be so happy to get another dog safely homed. There are people throughout most of the UK who can carry out the necessary pre-adoption homechecks. The galgos are wonderful, I have my second and third galgas arriving in less than 4 weeks and can recommend them, you would not regret it if you adopt one.
